I was thinking about starting up a small shop in town where I would sell nothing but metal and hard rock albums,memorabilia,DVD's,T-shirts and anything else related to metal and hard rock how would I go about doing this? would going to the SBA do me any good?

Don't bother. You won't make a dime. A friend of mine has owned a store for more than 20 years and he can't even cut himself a paycheck from his sales. Luckily he has other means of income that keep his awesome store open.

An online metal/hard rock distro would be a better idea.

Rap sells far better than rock and metal.

Why not open up a small store and do online? I have always wanted to open up a cd store, there was one here in my town called Big Johns, it was awesome. He was open for like 25 years, and sold it. The guy who bought it cleaned it up and made it a little more mainstream, but it still is one of the best cd stores around.

Because they're two completely different things, i don think MetalStorm is just looking to make a profit, owning a metal shop is more about making a local scene than just making money, its about forming a comunity where metalheads can:

1.- Buy metal (duh!)
2.- listen to metal
3.- Talk about metal
4.- Learn about metal
5.- Promote the local bands
6.- Promote and sell concert tickets
7.- And if the owner is cool you could also get wasted

Nothing replaces the experience of going to the actual store, of course an online metal shop will make you more money than an actual store, but seriously if you're only in it for the money there are way better ideas for a business other than selling metal albums, if not my advise would be to have both.

Hit the nail on the head. You see in this little dinky town there are only 2 places to buy music Walmart and Hastings Walmart doesn't cater to metal anymore and Hastings has a small selection of metal but not enough to satisfy even the average metal head.

I figure it would go good in this town I see a lot of guys and gals with metal shirts on so I know there is a healthy bunch of metal freaks here.

Well I guess it depends on what you expect in return: Profit or just a better scene in your township. Being metal and having the internet, making a profit would be impossible. But if your answer is the latter, then go ahead. At least you'll be looked up as someone who contributed to the metal community, unlike most of us hiding behind our computer screens while we argue about the many things about metal like: downloading/supporting bands/who to hate more? Noodles or Ken?

I know of 2 stores here in my town that are both fully online and in store, um, stores. Now neither of them are full metal and rock stores, but still. They have an online ordering system, and you can just walk into the store and browse through the shelves. Both of witch are most of the time very rewarding.

There is one store in my town that fits the exact description that walnut posted, it's online and haves store(s) (it haves franchises all over Croatia) and it sells metal mostly but lots of other shit too, and lots of mainstream (Tokio Hotel to be exact).

There's one Metal store around here, but they're going to Germany for awhile and might relocate, but they'll e-mail me and tell me where.

I hope it's not too far, 'cuz it's a pretty cool store.
