Fiction is the telling of stories which are not real. More specifically, fiction is an imaginative form of narrative, one of the four basic rhetorical modes. Although the word fiction is derived from the Latin fingo, fingere, finxi, fictum, "to form, create", works of fiction need not be entirely imaginary and may include real people, places, and events

Perhaps your typing hand isn't as limp as your wrist, you can google stuff!

They released albums and toured. Therefore not ficional, even if the film was.

They are just acting out a band from the film on stage, like a play that is adapted from a book. Does that make the characters any more real? 'tard.

As a BAND they are not fictional, the band existed regardless of whether the members where playing characters, the music they released isn't fictional, is it?

Well ok, you're right in that sense, but still it's difficult to consider them a real, credible band like say, Metallica.......

This is Spinal Tap is a fictionalized account of real events that happened to real metal bands. The band Spinal Tap is a real band in the sense that the "actors" wrote those songs and performed them as well.

They are not a fictional band because they wrote their material and performed it. They do however have a fictional back story accompanied by a movie.

Actors playing the parts of musicians in a band does not equal 'a real band', whether they performed the music as well or no.

When the band toured whether or not it was a parody they were touring as a band, it wasn't fictional.

Well, that's just an extention of the characters, isn't it? Like Steve Coogan doing stand-up as Alan Patridge, still a fictional character.
