But hey, maybe you're too young (there I go with that argument again, huh?). If you are, give it a few years, you'll be saying the same things I'm saying now. Shit, Zad is now saying the same things I said three years ago! Things he cussed me out for, replying in the same exact manner you're replying.

I win.

Christ, don't drag me into it. All I saw in this thread was people attacking people over completely off-topic nonsense. Yes, sometimes people are fanboys and like stuff and sometimes they don't. IT DEPENDS.

Now, if I could lock this topic and make you all wait until the review thread then I would, ya buncha fairies. Not heard Nostro myself yet, my Spec. Ed. hasn't arrived yet.

Until next week.

Z.

Just using you as an example. There is no need for the thread to be locked.

As for your special edition, you probably wasted your money. I heard it's not worth it. They should have at least included a stinkin' bonus track.

So what's on the special edition, then?

And now, back to Judas Priest, please. As I said before, I think Nostradamus is overlong, and that really hurts it- like most concept albums these days, it takes the Operation: Mindcrime route and stuffs the album with interludes, many of which are IMO boring (though they do manage to pull a few off, like Prophecy). I'm also not sure the concept worked too well- as expected, the lyrics are dumb, and the music doesn't necessarily match the lyrics all that well anyway, nor does it feel like the story is flowing all too well. That being said, many of the songs are quite excellent- highlights being Nostradamus, Revelations, Death and Persecution (overall, the first disc is probably stronger). Some songs could be cut (most notably Gods of War), but thats true for every single double album ever. Finally, Halford gives a great performance, and though there's less riffs and leads than I'd like, Tipton and Downing sound as great as usual.

So, I think all in all, I give it around a 77/100 or so. I'll be listening to it a few more times though before giving any final opinions.

Well put. I feel almost precisely the same about "Nostradamus". I'm usually very open-minded when a band goes in a new direction. The orchestration combined with JP's classic guitar tones sounds really great but the songs do lack strength. The short interludes bog the album down and the overall story concept. Perhaps this was meant more for Broadway than for metal? Good post though Brahm K.

I listened to this album for the first time today. And while Watershed disappointed me somewhat, Nostradamus actually surprised me a little. I wasn't sure of how well Halford would be able to pull off a heady concept album, but he did it with flying colors. Exiled is probably my overall favorite song. But most of them are quite good. And really don't stray as far from that classic JP sound as I predicted they would.

Is the special additiont the one that comes with the book?

'Cause if it is, then don't waste your money on it. Some cool pictures, and a pretty cool writeup, but not worth the cost. It was axactly double the price of the regular version. And you really don't get anything to show for it.

There are I think 3 or 4 special additions the most expensive one runs around $90-$250 depending on where you buy it but it includeds 3 LP's the 2 disc CD,a poster, book and a free concert ticket for one of their shows.

All of the versions come with the free concert ticket, or rather a voucher to obtain one. I bought the "regular ass" version at Best Buy for $12 and it had one.

The free ticket voucher is only for the Metal Masters Tour Dates:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Masters_Tour

DW: Maybe it just depends on where you buy it. All of the versions at Best Buy had vouchers in them when I was there.

Apparently they did a videoclip for War: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKjg8f7cwGQ

I can't watch it right now, but most of the comments say it's pretty shitty.

the video reminds me of a Final Fantasy game or Diablo 2 mixed in with Command & Conquer....

Nope. Actually I think the reason people reacted negatively to your's and stefan's posts is that they

1) Deliberately pushed the buttons of Priest fans
2) Argued against the album on the basis of the allegiance of the posters who liked it.

I guess my ears need to be candled, or perhaps my synapses need some voltage. Or maybe I need to fall from a great height and knock some sense into myself. I suppose the fact that my pleasure centres are being stimulated is all a figmet of my imagination, and I've descended into a cartesian well of self-doubt and I'm really being controlled by the man behind the curtain. Please. If this was anyone but Priest it would be hailed as a highlight of the year.

I think it's worse than shitty, I was unable to watch it without fastforwarding and I doubt anybody could watch it more than once or twice. It's beyond me why metal groups think these crap quality cgi videos are cool. Those looked awful even 10 years ago.

And something else. Is it just me or is War a really bad song choice for a promotional videoclip? This must be one of the least good songs on the Nostradamus album, if I had seen that song before getting the album I'm sure I would never have even tried it.

Link to a pretty pointless review of Nostradamus on Blabbermouth:

Some of the comments are predictably hilarious. Hey Ken, isn't this guy the shit for brains that you got banned from Blabbermouth for making fun of?

"It's impeccably recorded and mixed" ? has the guy really listented to it. You have to take the album for what it is but he's not giving it a chance at all. It's not terrible but I still think one cd would have been sufficent they are not Ayreon.

Hey, at least they didn't complain that the band hasn't gotten with the times and added hip hop to their music like Blabbermouth did for Brave New World.

Anyway, the review wasn't bad- I can see where the reviewer's coming from, even if I mainly disagree with him.
