If you go into it expecting a thunderous, traditional Priest sound, you will no doubt be disappointed. There are still a few of those tracks, but overall this is a much tamer and more melodic version of JP. Once you give up and take this album at face value, it is great despite the pompousness in my opinion.

Well Halford IS pushing 60. :)

So what? Lemmy is over 60, so is Dio.

His age has nothing to do with it. I think they wanted a more epic sound to match the scope of a double disc concept album.

It's a bit their fault. They released Nostradamus (the song) first and this probably made a lot of people expect Painkiller part II. But this song isn't representative for the whole album. They should have released Revelations or Alone instead. And Nostradamus would have been a great surprise towards the end. Anyway, great album, but, like you said, it needs to be taken for what it is and was meant to be.

I honestly think that , if the name on the cover wasn't Judas Priest, most of you guys wouldn't even be interested in Nostradamus. It's a pompous 100 minutes of tedious music by a band which used to be one of the best heavy metal acts around for about 30 years and now gives us this soft and tasteless album. So, okay, I get that Priest are kind of the thing you cannot criticize... That doesn't make a good album out of this dull, over-produced and lyrically stupid album.

And I'm pretty sure that Metallica releasing an album twice as good as JP's latest would still be thrashed by the trOO kids around...

Oh Jesus Christ, I am so sick of Stef's idea. I haven't heard the full album yet (plane listening was a bad idea), but I'm tired of this shit. Whenever people dislike a popular band's new album, its always because that band's popular and everyone needs to be TROO. Yet when people like a popular band's new album its because they're blinded by devotion to the band. Perhaps we can stop treating people like they're two and actually consider that they enjoy or don't enjoy an album based on its music.

Didn't Lemmy, however, once say that he was planning on breaking away from heavy metal and delving more into a more personal Stevie Ray Vaughan-ish blues sound?

Reminds me of the first time I heard Painkiller.

:dio: :dio: :dio:

Edit: The album is out?! Sad to hear it's not all like Nostradamus, but I really liked Angel of Retribution, and that was pretty tame too.

heh, despite being a priest fan .. I genuinely like this CD .. listened to it once a day since it came out, and IMO it's a majestic powerhouse with some great melodies. So there.

But all Stefan is saying is that if you find out tomorrow that it isn't actually Priest singing on this album, you'll say it sucks and toss it in the garbage. He must be right, because he's not a troo kid like the rest of us.

It was a good marketing move to release that song first as people inc. myself were expecting a different album. If they had have released one of the others it may have turned some off. I would have liked more tracks like Nostradamus and Persecution and at times maybe a bit less of Halford's vocals and more of the other members input. Anyway after listening to it over the last 2 weeks overall I'd give it 7/10.

Dribble?

Either way, Stefan makes good points. No one (i.e. not a lot of people) would give a fuck about this album if Joe Schmo and the Missing Chins of Octavarius released it. And it's also pretty much guaranteed that countless people will trash Metallica's upcoming album. Shit, they're already saying it's going to suck based on the band tuning guitars and whatnot in these "Fly On The Wall" clips.

I'm not sure why so many of you act like this shit isn't the norm. I have plenty of friends that act this way toward bands and artists. And it's a guarantee that many of you talk out of your ass when claiming that you're not like that. We've been seeing you do it online for years now.

With that said, Stefan is definitely a prick.

But of course, The Great Ken would never be guilty of this kind of behaviour. in fact, he is one of only seven people in the known universe enlightened and OPEN-MINDED enough not exhibit this kind of behaviour, I'm told.
