Maybe I'm just a poser but the Black Album is a classic for me, although only about half of it's good. But when it's good, it's fucking great.

How you can call a half-good album a classic is beyond me...

That's not based on my enjoyment, I know that Possessed-Seven Churches is a classic but I only half like that as well.

The Black Album is a classic because it was a landmark album and marked the new era of commercial metal. Maybe not a good thing, but still classic.

When commercial and classic are in the same sentence it's a sure sign that something is very very very wrong...

Then you'd better wipe those Maiden albums off that classic list.

Very true, especially with Somewhere in Time and Son of a Seventh Son. But then again, when most casual and non-metal fans think of Maiden they think of "Run To The Hills". Thats a pretty classic commercial song.

No, that's what the mainstream public think of. Metal fans instinctively think of The Trooper. Or so I have learned.

A lot of people I know hate Iron Maiden because of Run to the Hills. My dad said that when he hears that song he feels like he should have a loli pop. I try to tell people that Iron Maiden are so much more than Run to the Hills and The Trooper. But they never listen...

Who gives a shit? I tried telling people that Bryan Adams is so much more than all the other guys...oh shit now you know my secretgayloveaffair

Ok, so I've only got Peace Sells, Rust in Peace and Countdown, but out of those three albums I know well, sweating bullets is probably my least favourite song of all.

I just never, ever got what was so special about it. Mustaine's voice (which I normally like) is just so.....annoying in it.

It's so amusingly sarcastic that you just HAVE to naturally like it. I mean, tell me lines like, "Hello me, it's me again." don't make you crack a smile or chuckle a little. Not to mention the sassy/joking way Dave delivers them.

I think that's another thing that confuses me a bit about Countdown's success with metal fans. Countdown's a deliberately humorous/funny album. And many people think metal is supposed to be humorless and depressing. Come to think of it, that's one of the things I've always liked about Megadeth and Anthrax. They never took themselves nearly as seriously as Metallica and Slayer did.

Yeah, I dunno. The song just never did it for me. But thanks for bringing up anthrax - they're a good example of that sort of goofy metal done right. When I listen to "i am the law" or whatever its called, off among the living, THEN i have a smile on my face. When I listen to sweating bullets, i just kinda groan.

No offence to dave or anything, I love the guy, but I guess goofy tongue in cheek sorta stuff isn't really his strong suit. (to me)

Well, I'll leave it at saying that I have the opposite opinion. Mustaine also showed his tongue-in-cheek sense of humor on earlier Megadeth songs. Such as Peace Sells (with its verses), and Hangar 18 (with its chorus and the slight accent Dave sung it in). But Countdown was probably the first Megadeth album where the humor was placed more at the lyrical forefront.

I enjoy humour in metal, and I like the lyrics to Sweating Bullets. But its such a boring song...

Peace sells, though a fantastic song, is nowhere near as witty as Mustaine wishes it is. "What do you mean I'm not kind? Just not your kind"= No!

hehe, yeah, i know what you mean!

You get the impression he was sitting around writing the lyrics with his face buried in a pile of cocaine or something.

"...Just not your kind. wow. wow. I am a fucking GENIUS."

This argument must never be used again. Sales does not equal classic status, else N Sync and Britney Spears are pretty high up there.

...and hypocritical.

No one in their right mind would state that Kid Rock's album that sold 10 million is a metal classic because it sold 10 million copies.

Then again you can't say "The final countdown" automatically sucks because it sold 9 million either.

No. I love that album as a matter of fact.

I may have said something negative about Europe in the past, because I thought it was the kind of stuff that was entertaining for a week then got boring quickly.

I was wrong.

However, I saw this movie called "Hot Rod" which featured almost that entire album and fell in love with those songs again and haven't looked back since. I love Europe now.

Why are people saying this is a bad name? I dig it. I think it has that old school ring to it. Someone from the band Lurideath made fun of the name. All the while showing an avatar for his band's Death Brigade.

Death Brigade. Death Magnetic. Ooh, huge difference. Either way, I dig the name. The album won't reflect an old school sound much, of course, but I think it'll sound like a natural progression from the black album.

I agree, definite old school ring to the title.

I know i've already said this in this thread, but I can feel it in my bones people. The comeback is nigh. This album is gonna kill 'em all.

I do not like the new logo. It's practically unreadable.

Ignore me. Turns out it was some preliminary cover art.
