I like the music mostly. I do pay attention to the lyrics of say bands like In Flames where I feel there is meaning... But I don't really give anything but a slight chuckle to Dying Fetus when they're talking about crushing peoples skulls or whatever.

They're a political band you silly twat!

They're playing the democratic national convention this year.

I guess I don't know much about Dying Fetus, then, because when I think of them I think "Skullfucked, Fuck your fucking face" which doesn't seem political to me. Newer stuff is, perhaps?

What song is it by a commercial BM band which has awesome lyrics like "we play our art from a higher plain" or something?

Hmm. It doesn't ring a bell.. Can't help you there man. But some of the best BM bands sound like they really are playing their music from a higher sphere of existence.

I can't stand bands with immature lyrics like that. Are the diaries of 14 year olds their main inspiration?

Just look at the cover of the new album to get the picture.

I prefer lyrics to be a bit more... hmm... subtle, as well but I think you are taking it a bit too serious (or not seriously enough). 90% of all the worlds' song lyrics sound they are lifted from the diaries of teenagers (and indeed many of them are), but I have always had a weakness for exaggerated blasphemy. It's great fun and it adds a dimension to the music, that cannot be achieved through other and more thought out means. Bands like Beherit, Havohej/Profanatica, Blasphemy, Archgoat, Inquisition etc. and a big part of the Black Metal scene in general, were never about levying intellectual critique and constructive relativism on established belief systems and spiritual institutions. It's raw primal expressionism and should not be pondered meticulously. It belongs on the intuitive level of understanding and should be kept there. After all it is a lot more fun to stand at a gig or banging your head at home with the horns up while shouting "Hail Satan!!!" than doing the same while shouting "There are no moral phenomena at all, but only a moral interpretation of phenomena!!!". We know of what we are talking nonetheless.

I am a big believer that we're all wired a certain way. We develop interests and tastes when we're young, they take greater shape when we're teens, and as we get older they evolve but the core of those interests (for the most part) stay the same. I like to think that we all have an inner drummer or metronome if you will. Metal fans seem to have theirs set to this kind of music. I enjoy all kinds of music. We all do. I just find my self always gravitating back to metal everyday.

When I was a young kid I loved the Universal monster films (and Hammer horror). I stayed up late every Saturday night to watch a weekly horror show called Creature Feature hosted by Count Gore DeVol. I also loved science fiction. My point being that I loved using my imagination. Musically I listened to soundtracks then. When I was a teen I found metal. The lyrics and the heaviness of the music was just the perfect "soundtrack" to all of my interests. It also allowed me to effectively and creatively deal with frustration and aggression. Metal made me want to pick up a guitar and learn to play as well. I've been playing for more than 23 years now. It's been a great outlet. Plus, who would ever have thought that metal would make you think and pick up a book? Iron Maiden did that for me as a teenager. Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alexander the Great, To Tame a Land, Stranger in a Strange Land, The Trooper, etc. Damn what a great band.

As I've grown older and the music has become darker and heavier I've become a bigger metal fan. Dark aggressive music has helped me deal with many tough emotional times in my life. It's provided a functional way for me to deal with life's frustrations. As what was written in the original post, I would never want to purposely hurt anyone or anything. I don't think that anyone wants to but the music is a way to deal with anger, frustration, and many other negative emotions. On the more positive side there's nothing like driving down the road with some pounding metal song coming through the speakers. It just gets you going. I find myself doing my best double bass drum footwork or pounding on the steering wheel.

Anyway, those are a few of my thoughts on the subject.

I suppose, but they could at least try to say it with some kind of wit or inspiration. Maybe I'm just being finnicky.

It's all over the main site, eg: http://www.anus.com/zine/articles/fascism/

Quote:
The essence of fascism is positive: we are governed to promote what we love among our people and wish to nurture and make stronger. It is in this mindset only that one can recognize threats for what they are, because one has something one values and wishes to make grow ("consensus" in the longest-lasting sense). Democracies on the other hand are based on fear of strength and challenge that might puncture the political viability of the individual, and for this reason their primary mode of thought is avoiding threat and seeking out evils to overcome and normalize. People in democracies aren't "bad" people, but they are in the grips of a dysfunctional philosophy.

Highly intellectual, and a lot of very interesting stuff, some of which I agree with, but they trip themselves up when they start talking about race preservation etc.

Anus is about as highly intellectual as my cat. Certainly, he's a damn clever cat, but when compared to actual humans he often comes up lacking.

Oh shit! I'm sorry for any trouble it has made, but I was thinking about that article focused on metal, I didn't browsed that site any further.

No trouble at all. Raises a few interesting points about the nature of the site, I think.
