Feel free to comment on my recording of Angra's Hunters and Prey. As usual I overdubbed the original song. The mix is louder this time and the results sound okay to me. at least it's about 90% on key.

It may be on key, but your diction really kills it. The way you sing "WWAAAAAAAAAAY" is pretty grating, I gotta say.

I think I might go so far as the even say that diction in more important than being on key, because if you don't sound good singing on key, then you really don't sound good anyway, even if it is on key.

That's it. You're not allowed to slam anything else until you learn how to fucking sing.

I really wish I had a good compressor to compensate for that, as every singer does when recording. My options are limited on recording at this point. Essentially, It is a strait recording through a built-in intel mac mic. I also have had a partial for the last four or five months that is difficult to work with. I know it is a bunch of excuses, but they are obstacles that were not in the way back in when I was recording on a yamaha recording system and I had my natural teeth intact.

No thank you. I like emulation as opposed to trying to figure out how to sing in a totally different tone than the singer.

On another note, Being 200 mediocre singers in one is tough business. gotta start over and learn anew everytime I hear a new voice I like.

I'd rather be an original mediocre singer than an unoriginal copycat with a great voice. And no offense, but you're not on key at all. You're flat as hell. Secondly, singing along to something is a crutch because it's much easier. When you're flat and out of key when you're singing along with something, you're not going to get better. Do that shit a capella and then see how bad it sounds.

Or start smoking more. More smokes, more awesomeness!

I thought you did a good job except for in two or three places. I'm not familiar with the original song though.

Come on guys I think you're being a little too harsh.
It's not all that bad. Sure it sounds uninspired since it seems like he's concentrating
too hard on replicating the original, but his voice isn't bad. with a good mix and only his vocals recorded (no overdubbing ) it would sound decent.

Of course you are wrong again. I've done over 100 hours of live rehearsal and recording with some great musicians. Ive had my moments. some good, some great. some completely terrible. My tuner says it is on key by the way. maybe you are right and the tuner is wrong? maybe eduardo is off key? I'm not going to defend a couple bad notes.

I choose to sing difficult material because I want to be judged based on my weaknesses, not my strength. I don't want faint praise. I want to get better in the areas I suck at.

I liked all three. There are a lot of mistakes all around the songs but I think he's doing quite a good job trying to come close to the original singers. If I had a metal band I would have nothing against having Adveser as the lead singer.

It is a running theme. One of my best friends has made it a point to be able to play guitar in practically every style imaginable and subsequently can't find other musicians to play with because of their limitations.

The simple fact of the matter is if you can sound like anyone than that will be infinitely more interesting and more creative and ultimately more desirable. Like I have said. I know a lot of talented guys that I would like to work with in the future and my best bet is to able to handle any situation because they can too. Those guys can play anything in any style. I aim for having that too, which is very tough when you sing and can't just punch a pedal board and change the way you sound. Eventually it will get to a level where I understand theory enough through experience where it will be much easier to simply sing a song on key after hearing it. That is the only real difficulty I have. Falling into the habitual scales certain singers fall into. Its been a slow process but if the progress keeps up over the next couple years everything I want to acheive will just be a matter of politics and who-you-know.

Something like that. But more applicable to a song. Like Ayreon. This way I can write a vocal part of a song to serve the song the best way rather than have to alter it to accompany the key of the singing or tone of the vocals. The vocals should supplement the meat and potatoes of a song, which everyone knows is very very easy to manipluate and make it sound as you like.

Fundamentally I am a Songwriter/Producer/Engineer That is why I am going to college to get a degree in computer electronics. I already know all the sound engineering stuff and no college can get i=you into that business really, so its a good plan of attack.

I like the way certain bands write albums in as much as they write the best collection of songs they can and aren't stuck in a particular style so much. Thats what I aim to acheive. and no i'm not looking to ever get a record deal or get involved with any of that shit. Music is for fun. Making records is going to happen whether or not anyone listens to it or not.
