I have Think Tank which I really like. Rollins is my hero.

Im getting to that point too, a buddy just loaned me his copies of Shock and Awe, and sweatbox. Have you read any of his books? I have been looking to pick up something by him but i don't know where to start since it seems allot of them are black flag related and i could care less about that.

I really, really liked Solipsist. It's just Henry jotting down random musings on life. That guy has lived a strange and fucked up life, and wouldn't have it any other way.

RP:
Massive Attack - Protection
Man, this group is amazing. Electronic music taken to the absolute heights of perfection.

What part I read of Solipsist was good. His worst story and writings are about his best friend (name?) was shot on their front porch in DC. What's amazing is after all that shit he's semi-normal and travels everywhere across the world now.

I first picked up the Portable Henry Rollins which is a collection. Get in the Van wasn't too bad. Smile You're Traveling isn't too bad if you enjoy just like a travel log. His poetry is alright but his short stories are awesome.

I saw his spoken word show live last August. He is just so charismatic.

lucky, the closest he has come to me is about four hours away. we are trying to get the activities director at my college to book him.

I got the portable Rollins through the college library. So far I am enjoying it but I think the poetry is pretty bad most of the time.

Rollins has written about how Venom suck. Therefore, Rollins sucks.

Hahaha...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venom_(band)
Venom reportedly laughed off Rollins’ comments saying "Henry didn't have the balls to speak to us back then, he hid backstage, but now he mouths off behind our backs. His band were useless and that's why he writes books now. He even got the date of the show wrong. Go write some more books and we'll keep making music.
Venom are badass; Black Flag sucks ass.
If Rollins had mouthed off, he would have had his ass kicked in. Venom have a rep for being complete maniacs, Mantas is a MMA instructor, from what I understand, and even then was fully into Martial arts. And Cronos is just ugly enough to stop a clock dead.

I had on tape (a long time ago) an interview where the guy interviewing Cronos and Abbadon insulted them somehow, and they proceeded to destroy the place; you could hear furnitutre being thrown about, shouts of anger interspersed with Cronos laughing his ass off, while the poor bastard cried for help before the air went dead with a *thump*. Funny shit.

!? Black Flag are amazing and even though they broke up they're still more important than Venom. Rollins is a great writer too.

Lemmy said they were faking it in regards to muscal ability; not the same, champ. He later amended that by saying they were alright.
And Venom themselves are the first to admit they are not musical virtuosi.
No Lemmy does not suck.

Actually, quite a bit.

Saying Black Flag is more important than Venom is ridiculous; Black Flag was one out of hundreds of punk bands, and there were many punk bands that were way better than Black Flag. Discharge comes to mind, as does UK Subs, Rudimentary Peni, Crass, Raw Power, GBH and a dozen others I could easily roll off. Venom changed metal forever.
And Blag Flag criticizing any other band over musical ability is hilarious.

What??? Black Flag, especially Greg Ginn, are great musicians. I know this because I have ears and actually LISTEN to music rather than just memorizing band names to drop into a discussion. Black Flag came before, and are better known, than any of those bands (I do like Discharge more though :) ). It's just silly to say that they aren't THE hardcore punk band, no matter how many obscurities you can namedrop.

If they are great musicains, they certainly choose to hide it.
Sound like a bunch of Tourettes-stricken spasmoids, especially pre-Rollins... hell the Circle Jerks did it better.
I've heard enough punk to know what's good and what isn't...Black Flag is to punk what Metallica is to metal.
Being more well-known doesn't equal better, you know.
Memorizing names and namedropping? You arrogant little cunt, I've been listening to punk / Metal since before you were even born, so stfu.
METAL>>>>> punk, any fucking day of the week. Period.

Whoa, you either need to lay off the booze or the drugs or both.

Either that or go and get laid, it might release some tension.

Tool.

How clever!
FYI, I was attacking you on what you wrote, not on what you (think) you are...
Then, unable to answer my point you make personal attacks... Do you know how small it makes you look? No, even smaller!

Wow what a shitstorm. Without getting into the emotional aspect of Black Flag or what they attempted to portray, what about the Rollins Band? Those were some swell albums. Not all classics (maybe Weight) but there were some great songs.

Edit: Looking back, I wasn't going to defend Black Flag and then I started listening to My War. That album is so different than a lot of other punk bands from the time (afraid to use the word revolutionary) it deserves iconic status. That album wasn't typical teenage angst; it was raw, mature, (possibly be considered) existential angst that actually showed depth unlike the other bands who were excited about anarchy and horror movies. They weren't virtuosos and didn't display any technicality but for a punk band they weren't one layered. I'd go as far as to say that album creates the same dark atmosphere which many black metal bands do but instead of just portraying pain and melancholy; it portrays a vast range of emotions from paranoia to existential depression to guilt.
