I feel like I should like this band more than I do. My optimistic side says Kezia is a big awesome playing of instruments, but my critical side says it's a bunch of kids jacking off their guitars as the singer warbles along. But most of the time, Kezia just seems to go right through me, pleasantly leaving nothing more than a few "Hey, that was pretty cool"s.

Kezia quickly became one of my favorite albums ever. However I can't seem to get into Fortress.

Thats unfortunate because it's really good. I can't seem to stop myself from listening to it.

Maybe it's a grover. Kezia was instant love but complex music like this usually is not.

I thought Fortress was a big step up from Kezia. Especially Rody's vocals - his screaming is so much better and hits really hard now and he's writing better melodies than he was on Kezia and Moe's drumming - he's not relying on the same metal beat he used in almost all the songs on Kezia. Also they're getting rid of the silly pop-punk leftovers from when they were teenagers. There is stuff they could do better but Fortress is a step forward.

I love Rody.

Poor guy has no bulge which may explain his vocals.

If the vocalist would shut up for 5 seconds it'd be pretty cool. I don't really like the feel of the music, though. It still has that slightly annoying metalcore "I'm growing up from Linkin Park" feel to the music.

These guys and The Mars Volta have made me realize I have a musical fetish for yelpy girl-boy vocals.

Are you sure that's a musical fetish?

Maybe not. The man in my avatar is devilishly handsome...

lol

Cedric Bixler-Zavala has an awesome voice and I do love it to death, but Mr. Self-Confidence up there pretty much subtracts from the experience of listening to Protest The Hero. His voice just isn't right.
