I keep hearing things about this band that they are the black metal or extreme metal equivalent to Rhapsody On Fire are they worth getting into?

I don't like them but that is because they're the Rhapsody of symphonic black metal.

If you like the idea of Rhapsody with harsh vocals and lots and lots of fucking narration then they ought to be the band for you. Worth downloading a few songs anyway.

Be warned that the production on the earlier albums is as rough as a badger's arse.

They are good from what I have heard. Have got Atlantis Ascendant and it is a good BM album. There is also a review of that album on this site. Give these guys a shot.

I love fucking Bal Sagoth. I have for a really long time when I originally heard Battle Magic back in highschool as I'd never heard music quite like it.

Still love the guys... Their last release The Chtonic Chronicles was a good album.

I tried to like them, but could never get past the second track of Cthonic Chronicles.

It's a special band... It's not a great band, too much over the top, but sometimes I need listen to them.

And titles as : "And lo, when the imperium marches against Cul-Kothoth, then dark sorceries shall enshroud the citadel of the obsidian crown" or "In the raven-haunted forests of darkenhold, where shadows reign and the hues of sunlight never dance" are some of the best titles in metal history.

Battle magic is their best album , imo, followed by Starfire burning...

Same for me. It really sounds way too cheesy.

Way, way cool band. Although they sometimes sound like they should be on an advert for Alton Towers or something.

If you can get past the "storyline" bits then go for it!

I dig Bal-Sagoth a lot. They are just plain fun. But don't take it too seriously, they are full of cheese and proud of it. Unlike Rhapshody, they get the idea that being that fucking epic and that fucking grandoise does come off as being a bit silly, and embrace it.

You're some of the stubborn few that don’t get it. Bal-Sagoth is a mile above the competition, pointing the way to the stars, and the future of Metal as we know it rests firmly in the band’s hands.

The cheese is the best part.

When the lead singer does that deep story telling vocal as he does quite often I can't help but laugh... I dunno I enjoy it all personally.

Battle Magic and the Power Cosmic are my favorites. I still need to hear The Cthonic Chronicles.
