The fact that in this day and age an organisation can get away with shit like that is shocking. Let 'em burn.

How? The only reason everyone gives Scientology any less credit than any other religion because of how current it is. Everyone is so quick to shit on it because a science fiction writer came up with it. What about the guy that wrote the bible? Or the torah? Are they more qualified than L Ron Hubbard to dictate religious following? I don't think so. They were human beings just as Hubbard.

It's equally as ridiculous and harmful as all other religions. No matter how " moderate " the other religion. You can't give Christianity or Judaism or whatever other religion any more credit just because they were written thousands of years ago or appear to you to have practices and principles that make more sense than other religions. The said practices and principles of any other religion are equally harmful as the nonsense that is Scientology.

I dunno. In light of not repeating myself a bazillion times in this thread and due to my hatred for religion in general, I'm doneski with this one. I respect all opinions but really when people are willing to pick apart religion like one is better than the other it makes me upset because they're ALL nonsense.

last time i checked, you didn't have to pay to go to confession or whatever. sure some churches quite "encourage donations" but no way in hell do they even compate to scientology.

Yeah scientology is just as much bullshit as any other religion (I think every non-theist believes this); scientology just has extravagant member fees, dirty and overwhelming legal tactics, and cult-like tendency of pulling people from their family.

Couldn't have said it better. That's what this entire Anon movement is about; it's not that they disagree with their beliefs, it's that they despise the ways that those beliefs are pressured onto their members, and the rights that are taken from them when they enter the church (namely, free speech). It's my hope that one day communities like Anon will help to eradicate corruption and misdeeds in all organized religions (because, let's face it, every single one of them is guilty in some way), but...I guess we'll have to see how this first one goes down.

Logically speaking, it is no more ridiculous than the Judeo-Christian God, or any other. The difference is that the apparent bullshit of Scientology is more obvious, because it's so contemporary, we know how it happened. Give it 2000 years, and people will be convinced that L Ron was walking on water and healing people.
