Lol this is becoming a comic nerds thread. Watchmen is too good to be made into a movie. Its such a complex story, it'll be too easy to fuck up. Its the perfect comic book, should be left as that.

i've never read a comic book in my life, would i like Watchmen? is it a ton of issues or just one book?

It was a series, but you can get it all in one book. If you wanna start reading comics (which i've just started doing myself) check out anything by Alan Moore or Frank Miller.

Alan Moore wrote Watchmen, League of Extraodinary Gentleman, V For Vendetta and the Killing Joke (an awesome Batman story).

The premise of Watchmen is basically "What if superheroes existed in a realistic world?" Theres a superman-like character who cant related to humanity because he can practically control the universe, one of the heroes is a rapist, many of them are retired as well. Its a really interesting read.

(Btw, you can easily get scans of most comics from downloading forums. www.tehparadox.com has a whole comics section.)

SPOILER ALERT

Technically the Comedian never raped her. Silk Spectre I (Sally Jupiter) would later have an affair with Eddie Blake which basically shows that they had feelings for each other and Eddie was not the monster he was seen as by the rest of the team and that there was some legitimacy that his claims that he never really tried to rape her. He was violent and beat her up when he was rejected, which was shameful, but the fact is that she did love Eddie despite everything that happened. I won't say any more about it because it's one of the most revealing revelations in the book.

I think he was still a monster (Vietnam?), but it was more revealing about her in that she still went back to him.

Personally i can't think of an actor who could portray rorschach as perfectly as he's written in the novel. I thought he was by far the most interesting character. :dio: Rorscach is a metal superhero :dio:

I would have shot that bitch too for scarring me with a scotch bottle.

That is because the character exists in your mind more than in print. You are going to find it hard for anyone to play a role as you imagined it. I had this problem with star wars episodes 1 and 2 after reading the novels first. The characters were perfect in my head but my translation of them was not as good on screen. see what i'm saying?

Didn't have that problem with ep. 3 because hayden was brilliant in that. Ewan acted as I pictured him and Ian is always amazing and exceeds expectations.

Balls. That little twat cannot act at all, although perversely I think Jumper might be quite fun.

I liked the little Watchmen I read (back when I used to, haven't read any comics for ages). Constantine was much better, though. That was a dreadful film, even if wossname did make a great Lucifer.

The few decent comics that there are have never made good films. Look at LOEG, that was a visual abortion, and don't get me started on From Hell...

What was innaccurate about his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker? He was meant to come off as an immature brat. Come on, Mark Hamill was better?

K, there's no excusing the shitty writing that Lucas gave to Anakin in turning him into a twat, but there's no excuse for Hayden's acting either. He's normally not bad, but in episode 3 he's absolutely horrible. I mean, yes, the dialogue is shit, but there's nothing more wooden than Hayden saying "I love you because you're so beautiful" or "oh no, what have I done? I killed Mace Windu" or "in my opinion, the Jedi are evil!" Its actually funny watching the lightsaber battle between him and Ewen McGregor, because McGregor acts circles around him- the acting equivalent of chopping off someone's legs and leaving them to be burnt alive.

If you say so, I thought it was good. You have to take the perspective that that is the way anakin is supposed to act and it isn't hayden acting poorly.

Yes, I have, it's great. Order it from the library if you can.

Sandman is one of those things that's been on my "to read list" for a while, but, like everything else on my to read list, I haven't gotten around to reading it. The father of this girl I know writes or wrote some Deadworld comics, which the guy who does the Cannibal Corpse artwork draws (drew?) for. Pretty cool. He's also met Alan Moore and would smoke cigarettes with Neil Gaiman. Again, pretty cool. I've heard talk that the Walking Dead may have ripped off Deadworld a bit, which would break my heart, seeing as I loves me some Walking Dead and Robert Kirkman (he writes BATTLE POPE. That rules.)

Okay, so should we just make this a comic book thread?

Then you can say that about every bad actor. Oh, he's not bad, his character just sucks balls and speaks in deadpan!

Have any of you read Earth-X? I loved that series, but the ending seemed rushed....lame...too simple... whatever. Not epic enough when compared to rest of the series.

I have not, but I'll put it on my newly formed physical list. Garth Ennis's take on the Punisher rules, by the way.
