Varg's coming out this year isn't he? I guess there's a 1% chance (if that) of some new Burzum.

Coming out of what? The closet? No one's done that and made a good album.

Do people still care enough?

Varg'd be mad not to release anything. Candlelight, Season Of Mist, Southern Lord'd love to get their hands on him, it'd be the Black Metal event of the decade.

T'would be massive. Could be the first black metal album to maybe dent the charts in some way? Do all his royalties still go to the churches he burnt? Would be good for them, at least!

For some reason I don't have any high hopes if Varg ever releases anything again. It'll be an album with ratings of 0% and 100% and little in between. Massive flamewars will be held as every jack shit will want to voice his opinion.

Warn me when the first hints of new Burzum music appear, so I can turn to a hermitage for a year or so.

Didn't Vargy swear never to make metal again because it derives from blues, black music?

You're right about how it'll be polarising, I think. I think he's got it in him, though.

Obviously I don't condone your downloading monkery, but is it as heavy as Bleed suggests? Any new directions, or is it a humungous groovefest like Nothing and Catch?

Either way, can't wait!

He seems to change back and forth. He also said that he'd continue in the style of Filosofem.

There's a couple of new ideas, but mostly it sounds like a blend of all their previous stuff. some slow, some fast, lots weird, etc

New Jon Oliva's Pain and Kiuas in march. Don't much like the Kiuas artwork.

Unless Varg just really wants to make a new album, he'd probably be better served not to.

I'm kinda wondering what's going on with the new Nokturnal Mortum album and whether or not it'll make it out in '08 or not..? There's an Agalloch EP coming out soon too that has my interest.

New JOP is huuuuuuuuuuuuge news for me I cant fuckin wait. Jon Oliva is a genius. The cover is a cool idea that would be better if it wasn't for those skeletons.

I haven't really gone through this thread much so I dunno if anyone mentioned it, but new Rage called Carved In Stone this year too.

Bah, he nicked the name from Suicide Watch. Don't like the skeletons...

And I might have mentioned it, but new Ihsahn AND new Star Of Ash. More excited about latter, but I'll give Mr Tveitan another listen...

obZen is probably as conglomerative as Meshuggah could get with them being so varied. It's definitely interesting; it kind of frightens me as to when will the bottom fall out for them but this doesn't seem like that album.

New Ihsahn makes me excited.

New Thyrfing and Diablo albums are also coming out this year. Diablo's new album will be called Icaros with a release date in May. Still no info on Thyrfing other that it is coming this year. I'm rather sceptical since they've lost two very important members - the vocalist and guitar player, who was also one of the main songwriters. Jens Rydén has taken over the vocal duties but he will have a hard time replacing Thomas. I hope he does a good job.
