Aww come on you're not gonna make it a classic? :P

Anyways, SOAD is one of my favourite bands and their debut album is fantastic and quite possibly their best. In fact, IMO, I think you could make a case for any of their albums being their best except for Steal This Album.

I agree 100% about Mind. I guess I appreciate what they try to do with the whole slow/speeding up thing but in the end it just doesn't work and I always skip over it.

Great review, by the way. :dio:

Thanks. I nearly made it a Classic, but it doesn't quite cut it. And Toxicity does seem a bit basic listening now, but there are still some good tunes on there. I'm really loving Mezmerize, as I said in that thread, in a few years I might rate that higher than this even...

I think I would like the band more if Serj wasn't their singer. I know he doesn't sing as much on their newest albums, but still. The other singer is worse.

Personally I like the way Serj sings and I think he has a pretty good vocal range. I really dig SOAD and im glad they've taken a break for a while to boost their creativity (which has fallen in their last outing).

Mezmerize and Hypnotize annoyed the fuck out of me...it's nothing about the band being popular, it's just some of the most annoying music I've ever heard. But, I liked Toxicity for the most part so I won't hold anything against this one before I've heard it. Actually looks pretty decent.

Gack! Eastern-sounding melodies of "Know." Where? And "Suite-Pee" is practically anti-Christian? Ludicrous!

And this is a classic.

Actually, McChinless, most vocalists can't even begin to touch his skill level when it comes to singing. You wouldn't know that, of course, because you're a trendy cock depot.

I'd have to disagree with you there, in my opinion he's an outstanding singer. That other "singer" should keep his mouth shut though, why have a guy sing who sounds like a cat in heat when you already have one of the best.

Maybe in the music you listen to.

Again, no offense to SOAD fans, but why would you listen to this compared to amazing bands like Carcass, Death, etc? It just seems to lack the things that make an amazing band amazing. It's not bad, it just doesn't seem like something I'd listen to over most of my collection. Wondering what it is that draws you guys to it.

Who says we're not listening to all those amazing bands? We just like a little variety...

Buy a new set of headphones, Ken, and read the lyrics. Oh, and stop shitting in my thread.

I know you are, but it just seems hard to tear myself away from a lot of other bands to listen to SOAD. They just don't seem new or interesting enough, I guess.

Well, you know some of us do think SOAD is amazing and did you think for a second that maybe some of us aren't necessarily into the style of music that Carcass and Death play?

I don't know why you're trying to compare death metal bands to SOAD in the first place.

Eh. I didn't enjoy this very much. Probably my least favourite SOAD album behind Hypnotize.

yeah, I was a teenager when it first came out, and I liked it then, but it just annoys the shit out of me now. I hate his voice, and his song on the first IOMMI solo album is the only one I skip. I find it to be spastic nonsense, but lacking the charm of other spastic nonsense like Cephalic Carnage. Probably because CC has more Jazz.
