I take these EPs like I take Edguy's "Superheroes". They're blown-up pre-release singles. The thing I like about Tobi is that while the studio requires pre-release singles, he tries to give a little more. It's easy to bash these EPs for having too many covers or not having the best songs, but it's better than one album song and a B-side or two. I understand some countries and outlets are overcharging for them, but the intent from Tobi was to provide a couple of bigger packages at single prices. Here in the US, they are going to be going for around $10 or less, which is what we pay for singles, so I know his ideal is met here, if not everywhere. So from that perspective, for $20 (which is just a couple dollars more than I pay for a brand new 10-song album) release, I can get 11-12 songs and a chance to here Tobi do something like Abba. Some songs are better than others, but very few full albums are great all the way through either. Most of the the best songs are going to be saved for the final release anyway, so EPs like this are meant to just give a little warm-up, and Tobi makes these EPs more valuable than most people do. granted, I wish there was a "Judas at the Opera" this time, but how lucky can anyone be?

Just a couple dollars more? So you pay like $18 for a new CD? Ouch. You know you can buy new CDs cheaper than that, right?

There are very few stores in my neck of the woods (only 2 that I've found within 50 miles actually) where any metal can be found, and I only internet shop if I absolutely have to (I prefer walking into a store and walking out with something right away). It depends on if it's a new release sale or whatever, but I can pay as low as $14. I also know though that Lost in SPace 1 & 2 will only be $8-9 during it's first few weeks in the same store, so it still works out to be the same.

And by any metal, I mean other than nu-metal and Avenged Sevenfold LOL

new cd's costs at least 25 dollars or more here.. but if you'll dig deep you'll find cheaper stores. The new avantasia ep's costs about 15-17 each...

The singles are selling for 17 francs each here, and the average price for a new cd is 30.

Hopefully The Scarecrow will have a Metal Opera, pt II feel to it, with a bombastic track (the title track) followed by a speedy number (in this case Shelter From The Rain) just like The Seven Angels was followed by No Return. But I'm just hoping. Most of the rest of the songs sound like mid-tempo rockers to me, though.

Quote:
1. Twisted Mind (6:14)
2. The Scarecrow (11:12)
3. Shelter From The Rain (6:09)
4. Carry Me Over (3:52)
5. What Kind Of Love (4:56)
6. Another Angel Down (5:41)
7. The Toy Master (6:21)
8. Devil In The Belfry (4:42)
9. Cry Just A Little (5:15)
10. I Don’t Believe In Your Love (5:34)
11. Lost In Space (3:53)

New trailer. And it sounds killer. I don't care what people whine about.

Who's been whining about The Scarecrow so far?

That was a pre-emptive comment. Just listen to a few samples in that trailer, especially "Carry On." You know what's coming.

New video from the album: Carry Me Over

Lost In Space sounds like an instant classic compared to this. Tobi couldn't have picked a worse song to represent the album.

I think Carry Me Over actually is better than Lost in Space. Could be based on expectations, I had high expectations for LiS but no expectations at all on CMO.

Promised Land blows them both away though. God, Tobi can still write some of the best power metal in the world when he wants too. I just wish he did so more often these days.

Yeah, it's a good tune. It's far from awful. Not sure it'll be my go-to song, though, but it's a decent rock tune.

All about personal taste I guess. I do think it's awful. But am still hoping for a good rest-of-the-album.

Just read a review of The Scarecrow that was very positive. If it's as good as the better tracks on the Eps I'll be happy. Sounds like it will be quite different to the first two which is a shame more rock than power metal but I'll still give it a go.

Eh, the first two had rock songs and ballads, too. I've never understood why people act like Avantasia was a straight up epic power metal project. And it's not like those albums were much different from Edguy's material at the time. They mirrored each other, at least musically. It won't shock me if The Scarecrow is like Rocket Ride. In fact, it'll shock me if it isn't.

Well in that case I hope it mirrors Theater Of Salvation their best album in my opinion. But it will be more like Rocket Ride.

I don't think it'll be as... silly.
