Please feel free to discuss voting in this thread, or ask questions about albums you are unsure of where to place.

Please only discuss voting in this thread, not in the voting thread.

Methinks DsO will do well in the BM poll.

godammit I had my database of 2007 albums I'v been listening to and it's back in England. So are all my albums from 2007. Have been listening to nothing but the old stuff on my mp3 player while I've been in the US.

So looks like I may fail to get any lists this year

Sucks

Well, maybe some other people's lists will jog your memory.

is L'acephale-Mord Un Totsclag acceptable? It was released as a demo limited to 100 copies in 2005, but wasn't made widely available til this year.

Dodheimsgard - Supervillain Outcast

Is it acceptable in a black metal category?

Where should I put these two

Turisas - The Varangian Way
Moonsorrow - Haevittety

There should be a Viking/Epic Metal thread

Okay, in response to the two questions:

Stefan - Might as well put DHG in black metal, since that's the genre they're most often associated with (even though their new one sounds more like death metal).

AlexandeR - Put Turisas and Moonsorrow in Avant-Garde/Alt-Metal/Metalcore. I realize they don't fit well there, but, as it was last year, that category will be used as a catch-all for obscure genres (Viking, Folk, Sludge, etc). The reason we don't have a Viking Metal thread is the same reason we don't have a Sludge Metal thread. There would only be a few people that would vote in them and others would pop in and vote for one album because that is all they have heard. We did something like that a couple years ago and it was a mess. The current system, while not perfect, is probably the best way of doing things.

Imho, Sludge would better fit with doom.... As for Viking metal it can either be with Death Metal or Heavy Metal depending on the band's sound.

You are right, but this opens up a whole shitload of questions of interpretation. Trust me, it just works better if the more obscure genres are all lumped together. As I said before, it's not a perfect system.

Yeah, I label all the death/black/grindcore/blackened/deathened shit as "extreme metal" in my itunes and all the melodic stuff like sonata, COB, Catamenia, In flames, stratovarius et. all as "european metal"

May I just say that Ken's thrash list is a homosexual and I don't like it very much.

+1

Obituary thrash or death?

Did Evile's Enter the Grave come out this year? If so I might have to change my thrash list...

EDIT: Im putting Obituary under Death, and when I think of death metal this year my mind draws a blank

Shouldn't melodeath have a thread of its own? There would be plenty of people to vote for it. It looks out of place in the death thread and it would be awkard for a melodeath band to come out number one.

I agree. I think these bands have more in common with acts like sonata arctica and stratovarius than napalm death
