With Metallica's new album supposedly coming out in less than a year, the burning question remains about the upcoming album (as with every post-Black Album Metallica releases): Do you think it's possible for Metallica to make the comeback they so desperately want to make, or did the band screw up so badly that they really can't do anything to regenerate their reputation?

It depends on how you would define a comeback. If by comeback you mean an album as good as the first four/five, then no. James can never sound that good again, unfortunately. But if one would define a comeback as an album better than everything they released since, then hell yes!

I have some faith deep down that they can do it. I'm sure most people would be happy with a Black-quality album at this point.

No.

A comeback would entail revisiting Thrash Metal in most people's minds. It's prety apparent Metallica eithier flat-out can't or just plain won't do that anymore. Can they put out a good album still? Sure, but I highly doubt it wil be what most people want from them.

I was waiting for a comeback when i was a child.. then came Load and Reload... yeee-aah!!! :lame: perhaps good for what they were, but not really in the old vein as i loved. There's no really reason why anybody should hope for a comeback as such. It may do well, when it comes to hand copies over the disk in the record shop. The ignorance of fanculture know no boundries. I may do a "come-back" in that sense.

I know a guy who once said that St. Anger was better than their old stuff. He probably still thinks it is as he is a huge Metallica fan owning.. what.. a 100 "albums" with them perhaps; bootlegs, 12''s, 7''s, cd's, fanclub cd's, demos, live albums etc etc... i believe he had 50 in his collection 3 years ago, haven't seen much of him since then due to education and such. Plain stupid to waste that kind of money on one shitty band, especielly when it is the same music you keep buying over and over just with different covers

I'm leaning more in an improbable, but not impossible direction. I think they can and hopefully will make something better than St. Anger. If they can't do that...

I selected the third option. Depends on what you mean by a come back. If it is going back to creating the type of stuff they did before the black album, I'd say it is highly unlikely. If you mean them creating a solid metal album, then that seems a bit more possible what with metal slowly inching towards the mainstream again and many metal bands either reuniting and/or releasing good stuff. If they feel metal is cool again, they might as well do it. Besides, there is no denying that they have the talent to create a good metal album.

Thrash? No. Better than St Anger? Yes. Overall, yes.

No, I think they're going to try and appeal to the 'core kiddies, maybe they'll even rip Trivium off......

Does it matter? They could write an album better than Kill 'Em All and you'll all trash it.

C'mon guys, the demos on Youtube weren't THAT bad. Actually, one of them reminded me a little of The Ritual-era Testament. And that's a good thing, because The Ritual is one of my favorite Testament albums (I'm well aware of the fact that I put myself in danger of a lot of flaming for admitting this).
