What can we say about this man, who is certainly not without value?

Smells Like Children and Portrait Of An American Family are actually very wierd ( in the good sense).

He wrote some good poppy Industrial Rock music, he did. Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals are great albums.

I like watching his interviews because he always handles himself really well. His autobiography is pretty awesome too.

But he really needs to snap out of this state of emo he's in and deliver something in the spirit of Antichrist Superstar again.

I've never liked his music, although he has had some interesting stuff to say in the interviews I've seen of him.

He's pretty pathetic nowadays though =\

I'm quite sure the onion article is a joke.

Out of all of his music, probably 6 or 7 seven songs are good and listenable and the rest is utter shit, especially the new uber-emo shit.

It's a rumor, there are a lot of rumors about him, some true some not. It is written in his autobiography that he tried smoking human bones dug up from a graveyard in New Orleans, though. :dio:

I've only heard a few of his songs, and the only one I actually payed attention to was 'This Is The New Shit', and that was pretty cool. One of my friends is obsessed with him, I could find out everything i would ever want to know about him just by saying to her 'Tell me about Marylin Manson'.

Though I'm gonna do that.....

Stay away from the album that song's on, though, I heard it was bad.

I actually enjoy to some extent The Golden Age Of Grotesque. This Is The New Shit, Mobscene, Doll-Dagga-Buzz-Buzz-Ziggety-Zag and Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth are all good songs.

Ah, at last. I've never gotten into this artist, can you recommend a good place to start?

My first and last MM album was Mechanical Animals and it is pretty good. Last Day On Earth and Disassociative are two of my fav tracks. I have listened to a little of Anti Christ superstar and it sounded good too. Anti Christ superstar is also one of his most acclaimed albums. So, I guess you can check out that one. Anyone know if his albums before Anti Christ superstar are worth picking up?

The debut is outstanding, if you ask me. The rest are all a bit different from each other, but Mechanical Animals and the latest are probably the most unique out of the catalog. I recommend the debut, then try Mechanical Animals. If you can dig those two, you'll likely dig the rest.

Try before you buy, of course.

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a somewhat watered down version of "Horror Punk", then go with Portrait of an American Family. If you're looking for a dumbed-down, chest-beating version of NIN, go with Antichrist Superstar. Both albums are produced by Trent Reznor, and are fairly decent in thier own right. After he stopped collaborating with Trent, things went downhill fast. I did listen to him during my angry at the world for nothing teenage years, but now when I try to go back to it I see how silly it all was. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks, all. Will post progress when I get around to them (debut and Antichrist).

And for the record, I'm sure I've explained my good/entertaining quality control to everyone, but if not, then music is, like films and art in general, good, ie artistic and of superior quality, or entertaining, ie fun, mindless. Nu-metal falls into the latter for me, it cheers me up, hence all the Slipknot purchasing (for which once I'd have been verbally assaulted. I'd have to post c.p for that to happen now. How times change).
