I just saw Sigh last night at a tiny club in Tokyo- they were fucking incredible! This Japanese doom-metal band "Revolt" opened for them, and they were really good, too.

Sounds awesome. How well did the new stuff work live? And have they started playing stuff off Gallows Gallery? From what I've heard, they don't because it's impossible to play live.

They were an opening band so they didn't get to play for very long, so they mostly played stuff off of Hangmans Hymn. I actually haven't heard much off of Gallows Gallery, but someone in the audience was telling me that one of the songs was off that... I can't say for sure, though. I know they played "Bring Back The Dead", so they at least played a few songs off older albums.

They were really good live- very tight set, good stage presence (Mikannibal (saxaphone / female vocals) looked outrageously sexy) and good sound. Plus, the band chilled out in the audience to watch the rest of the bands, which I thought was awesome.

Saw Candlemass last night. Top notch gig, with great sound. Highpoint for me was Solitude played way slower than on record.

I know this is the wrong forum, but we don't have a doom equivalent to this thread

Suspected bands to play: Hemlock, Fullblown Chaos, Alabama Thunderpussy, and Obituary. overall score 5/10

Actual bandlist: Remain, Disgust, Alabama Thunderpussy, and Obituary. overall score 8/10

Remain was an ok Amon Amarth rip off from my home town.

Disgust was like a newer Napalm Death.

Alabama Thunderpussy was awesome. Did a great Judas Priest cover. Saints in Hell.

And of course Obituary stole the show. When they played Slowly We Rot the place went crazy.

I have pictures, but I will upload them later.

EDIT: I also saw Jessica Alba while walking around downtown Toronto. There is a film festival in Toronto this week and she was there same with several other big name celebrities.

Going to see Finntroll tomorrow night. I'm pretty pumped up about it too. Road trip!

Finntroll show was awesome. I would've driven another 6 hours to see them.

saw DFC (brazillian punk/hardcore), 31 (trinta e um, portuguese hardcore) and Simbiose (portuguese crust) last night for 5€, it was awesome.

there was none of that fair-hardcore-karate-ballet shit, bonus!
according to my friend who goes to these shows regularly, it's usually like that, but bigger bands have poser fans who think it's more about fighting than having fun.

Watain and Impiety. Missed Impiety, heard the sound was shit. Watain was cool, but it got a little old towards the end.

Went to "Damnation Festival". Was a bit steep, and because of prior commitments I left before the main attractions (Kreator and Anaal Nathrakh) came on. But saw a few bands: 1349, Orange Goblin, Aborted and Kataklysm.

Aborted were soo good- a revelation to me as I hadn't heard them before. Kataklysm were kind of dull, I thought. Just dense melodic riffs with little light and shade. 1349 were great, as were Orange Goblin who earned points for covering No Class by Motorhead and dedicating a number to Lucio Fulci. But they were much faster and less doomy than I was expecting from their albums.

Kreator pissed me off because I had enough time to catch about 20 minutes of their set but they couldn't fucking get their act together despite having 40 MINUTES scheduled for their set-up and soundcheck. They spent most of that putting up a useless crappy backdrop, and then their roadies were still arsing about half an hour later when I had to leave.

Good golly, every time that band comes up, I can't help but seeing it as "anal," which leads me to some very juvinile thoughts.

Anaal is Anal in Dutch, so I'm sorta stuck with it.

Krisiun, Incantation and Estuary last week.

Estuary were good, thrashy death metal with a woman vocalist and Jack Owen on bass.

Incantation put me to sleep.

Krisiun woke me and all the neighbourhood up with literally machine gun like riffage, drumming and vocals. It was like listening to music made by a rain of bullets. Intensely energetic and everything. One of the best shows this year.

Because I liked them live, I downloaded their debut. Pretty impressive. Is their new album as good as that one?

Still touring after the whole Essen thing then? Would like to see them, I've never seen a black metal band in concert. Probably because all the best ones (bar Immortal) don't play live.
