Also would like to add that from the video Annette seems to have tons more charisma than Tarja, and I like the way she moves which will make for an interesting aspect during a live show.

Someone's never seen a Britney video! I can see the points of some people that compared to Tarja's more graceful style it's weaker, but I thikn it fits in with the band's new sound.

I don't see how she moves relates to Spears... two totally different things. Have you seen Tarja live ? She's got a great voice but her stage presence isn't really good and she barely moves and when she does it looks pretty awful. Well just my opinion. Sharon from Within Temptation or Cristina Scabbia , now these frontwomen have presence and charisma!

I pretty much loooove the new song/video.
yay!

I can't even compare it to new and old nightwish.

Same here it's actually quite good, Annette's voice sounds better (probably due to the mix) than on previous samples.

I pleasantly surprised, and I'll most likely grab this when it comes out.

Well... the whole album has leaked.

I must say I'm very pleasantly surprised. The vocals are great. I think it's better than Once (which I also like). They have really taken the whole 'movie score' sound a step forward and are beginning to sound more like Therion than older nightwish.

Still a great band, they've just got a really good but typical singer now. The album is awesome, though.

I still dont know what to think of this. It does feel really different from their usual style (and its not just the vocals that are different here). Id give it a couple of more listens to know what I think of it.

Based on the three and a half songs I've heard from the album, it sounds like typical Nightwish to me.

What got me into Nightwish 8 years ago was the vocal style combined so well with what they were doing. From what I've heard Nightwish have lost what seperated them from other bands and will just be another female fronted metal band with great music.
Many may disagree but for me Nightwish aren't Nightwish without the whole operatic vocal thing it gave their music a powerful edge.

I think it is different. Not all of it, but a good portion of the CD is in the style of Within Temptation, Xandria, etc.

I pretty much agree with you. I still think the CD is great for its style (though it's definitely my least favorite from them), but I'm not too happy overall with the direction they've gone.

For those who are interested in my complete take on the CD, you can check out my review here (if you haven't already):

It's amazing what difference a great vocalist can make. Tarja could make average songs seem more than that, with Anette they remain average.

Btw, here's Tarja's new video: I walk alone

Imo this song is much better than anything on Dark Passion Play.

Sure, if you like second-rate Nightwish.

Wow, that was unexpected. But man, you gotta love Marco. :D

I like the song, a bit poppy maybe, but much like Wish I Had An Angel it really keeps together and stays good all the way through. I'll save most of the comments on the album to when the CD is reviewed.

For those who don't know, Bye Bye Beautiful is about Tarja, and Tuomas isn't trying to hide it. The are also references to Tarja's manager Marcelo (or whatever his name is). Many think that Tuomas wrote the album to get back at Tarja, but I wouldn't go that far. A bye bye song is enough =D.

The chorus is pretty ruthless. Haha. At this point, I'm one to believe Tuomas and the band. They seem to be very insulted by her.

And I'm sure they're not happy that her upcoming solo album is going to be a Nightwish clone.

Agree, though it doesn't really sound that good judging from the three songs I've heard. The structures are way too simple and there really isn't anything that supports Tarja's voice. I don't have a problem with Anette so I'm gonna stick to Nightwish ^^.

Right, because these musicians can't emulate Tuomas' songwriting style. So it'll likely be a good album, but nothing amazing.

Well, I for one am falling firmly on Tarja's side of the fence. I have heard two songs from "My Winter Storm" and I'm impressed that she's moving on. She's creating good solid material. I liked "In This Picture". Cool song. Tarja's working with top notch musicians and she got Hans Zimmer to do orchestration. You just can't get much better than him. I think he's one a few awards...yep...I'm sure of it.

I've lost all respect for Tuomas and the rest of the guys in Nightwish. How they handled Tarja's dismissal was abhorrent and inappropriate. Keep your dirty laundry within the band. They've sunken even further by writing revenge songs for Dark Passion Play. There's just no reason for all of that. It's damn juvenile if you ask me. Just release her and move on with your career. Tarja has. It's just petty nonsense that personally for me ruins Nightwish. The new stuff I've heard from DPP sounds closer to metal fluff than anything they've produced in the past. I'm just not impressed. Anette is ok for what she does but she's nothing special. There's just nothing about her voice that sets her apart like Tarja's does.

After viewing the live clips of Anette performing the past material, I know I'll never pay to see them live. She just hacks up the Tarja material. The phrase End Of An Era could not be more appropriate. the band that was once cutting edge and light years ahead of the genre is now no more than a caricature of itself.

SAD!!
