GUITAR HEROES-album: Latvala, Laiho, Tolkki, Vuorinen...

14.08.2007

GUITAR HEROES album (releasedate November 7th) gathers the baddest and most respected metalguitarists from Finland together. The album is purely instrumental and it will contain guitarists like Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius), Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala (Children Of Bodom), Emppu Vuorinen (Nightwish), Esa Holopainen (Amorphis), Sakari Hietala (Tarot), Tuomio (ex-Impaled Nazarene), Euge Valovirta (Godsplague, Suburban Tribe), Mikko Salovaara (Kiuas), Nino Laurenne (Thunderstone) and Mr. Crab (Bleak).

The rhythm section contains the drummer Kai Hahto (Wintersun, Rotten Sound) and bassplayer Lauri Porra (Stratovarius, Warmen, Kotipelto).

Each guitarist has composed their own songs without any chaining elements and the album ends with a song containg all the guitarists together.

Producer Nino Laurenne (Thunderstone) said that "It was great to have all the guitarists I wanted on this album. Most of them have even recorded with their own amplifiers and therefore their unique sound can be heard on this album."

Interview of Alexi Laiho concerning GUITAR HEROES-album. Includes studio material. Alexi also revealed in the interview that the new Children Of Bodom album will be released on March 2008. View the interview at this location. (interview in finnish)

It is Guitar Heroes after all.

This sounds like a good idea. Let's see if the end result will be good too. I'm surprised to see Kiuas guitarist among the line-up. Tells you how much Kiuas are famous in Finland.

Well, he hasn't done much to prove it... has he ?
Look at it with objectivity, he hasn't done anything captivating or worthy of a guitar legend since Sonata have released Silence. I know he has the skills but he barely scratches the surface of what he can do for whatever reason and I think it's a complete waste of talent.

That's why, despite some of the skill levels involved, Sonata has never quite stepped up into my top ten bands. There is alot of underachieving that's been commited by these guys capable of doing more. Tony has a good voice with great potential, but like many other Power and Progressive Metal vocalists who try to bring in operatic vocals, he needs to take some time training his voice. His lyrics are also great at times while at other times they seem a bit lazy. Jani has amazing skills, but he was often underutilized - don't know if this is by choice or by the band's design. The drums are often pretty bland, despite what we've al seen Tommy is capable of too.

Then you have Henrik, overdoing everything he does, which sometimes makes for a screwy balance, expecially on the new album.

I'm sure Jani could be on that list if he chose to unleash his full potential more often.

It is really good to see Tarot's name in there. And Stone are the best thrash band around. period. I tried getting into Testament and Slayer, but I had heard Stone previously and those bands just couldn't cut it. Alexi is a genius writing great melodies, too bad he didn't write enough for thier last record. Timo is a fucking great producer too.
