Pretty much the worst album of 2007. Makes Strato's s/t seem completely god-like in comparison.

I completely agree with both of you. That album was my worst album pick for 2007.

But why do I have a feeling that this album will sound like Rhapsody (of Fire)'s latest album?

Tolkki hasn't written anything good since Infinite. And his first solo output was laughable at best.

He doesn't have it anymore. That certain spark of inspiration, and his sanity.

This is something he's wanted to do for a looong time so I wouldn't be surprised if this album would knock the socks off of your feet.

But then again I am a Stratovarius "fanboy" and love every single song that Tolkki has ever written so I should probably just shut up and stop bothering people :P

Dug up this old thread instead of starting a new one.

Tolkki's opera is due to be released soon. Listened to the clips uploaded on the site and I have a feeling I won't like this, not because it sucks but because it is not my thing. Well you can hear it for yourselves - http://www.saana-warrioroflight.com/

While you are there read the newest drama with Timo and his now former label Frontiers. I'm all behind Tolkki on this one and I don't see how the label will pull it off.

You're behind Timo? The dude is nuts!

Insane! He's claiming because Frontiers rejected his masters that he's somehow free from the contract. He posted all the legal documents on his page. Haha. Frontiers did reject the masters, because the music on it is not anything like what they agreed on in good faith. It was supposed to be like Nightwish and Within Temptation. Anyone heard the album? Just listen to the terrible clips with all the off-key singing. There's nothing "rock" about it. It's all orchestral shit. And by shit, I mean shit.

So basically Tomi made promises and a contract was drawn up based on those promises. He delivered something totally different, though, and thinks that because Frontiers rejected it and asked him to redo the album—in whole or in part—he's free from that contract. Haha. What a turd.

He is in breach of contract. Plain and simple. And Frontiers will release this turdfest to try and recoup monies lost.

I'm going to reserve my judgement until I hear the album, but DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT call the man who wrote Episode - Infinite a turd. That's just rude.

Well I only know his side of the story. He claims that Frontiers hasn't fullfilled some contractual obligations and that's why he terminated the contract. No specifics about the label fault. I don't really care about whose fault really is. Tolkki did everything on that album so he is in his right to do as he please and get the most out of it. Any legal bullshits, contracts or whatever are irrelevant when it comes to his work. Just because Frontiers didn't fully grasp his idea of what the final product will be (no matter how shit it is) doesn't give them the right to make money out of it. Still, Tolkki shouldn't have announced Saana as a rock opera, judging from the two songs i've heard it's nothing like that. So like i've said I don't care about breach in contracts and who is right or wrong, Tolkki should get his money for this and start working on the next Stratovarius album as soon as possible.

Well, did you read the legal documents he posted? They're pretty clear to me.

He just seems to think that he can tell Frontiers he would record one thing, hand in another, and then be able to walk away with their money (used to record the album) and the music itself. It makes no sense, and him posting those links incriminates him more than anything, I think.

You make it sound like Tolkki planned this scheme from the beginning. Basically Frontiers reaction is the same as mine when I first heard the sample songs. This doesn't sound like rock at all so the label got worried their money have gone to waste. They started to meddle too much with his "vision" about Saana and Tolkki was forced to terminate the contract. He had his idea of what the whole thing should be right from the start, maybe he should have explained it better to the label. The label trusted him on good will and they got screwed. But I pity Tolkki for his delusions that his innovative and original concept is actually a masterpiece. I think you are right, Tolkki have lost it. Still Frontiers should wash their hands clear of this. It would only bring them more loss if they release the bloody thing. And Tolkki should visit a shrink. I have no doubts that this will be "The Best Drama" in metalstorm awards for 2008.

Oh, I don't know that he did it on purpose, but saying it would be like Nightwish and Within Temptation, and then turning in an orchestral...something, sure doesn't make it seem like he was being completely honest. He can scream about artistic freedom all he wants, but you kind of lose a good chunk of that freedom when you sign that contract.

If you say you're going to record a death metal album and then turn in a rockabilly album, don't expect to receive much encouragement from the label. Haha.

Must be a law for power metal somewhere that you have to release at least one rock opera. How about a new Stratovarius cd instead. Just let Jen's who is such an awesome talent and the others contribute more.

Sigh, Tolkki is such a mess right now. I really can't make anything of it. The instrumental soundclips sound like something Nobuo Uematsu would've written for FFVII-IX, except that these ones are boring.
