I am of the opinion that "Kill" by Cannibal Corpse is up there with Slayer's "Rain in Blood" for good old fashioned classic metal - catchy, brutal and best of all headbangin'!!

Far from desiring to create any controversy re: the above statement, can you guys help me out?

Can you recommend any good "groove/riff" orientated death metal in the vein of "Kill"? I'm not really interested in anything dominated by blastbeats (aka vital remains - though still excellent).

Whaddya guys reckon? Other death metal bands I enjoy are bloodbath, ribspreader, entombed, death to name a few.

Throw a few album suggestions my way!

Cheers :)

Obituary. Check out 'Cause Of Death' and 'Slowly We Rot' first.

Gorelord, try Zombie Suicide Part 666. It's the grooviest death metal I've heard in aaaages.

Also, you said you enjoy Entombed. Like I've said many times on these forums you probably want to check out their newest.

I agree with Dismember, especially "Massive Killing Capacity".

Hell, i forgot Asphyx! The first two records are some of the best slow death metal ever recorded. Also Martin Van Drunen is one the best DM vocalists ever.

Slugathor and Irritate from Finland are also worth a mention. Irritate's old stuff is more hardcore-oriented, but the 2006 demo kills! Simple-as-hell riffs, lots of groove and very sick vocals.

Funebre is also a good old-school death metal band from Finland, not very known but still groovey and raw.

I'm kicking myself for forgetting that at the moment.

They're far from groovy. Bolt Thrower is about dumping riffs the size of supertankers onto your head.
