I like the energy from the powermetal bands, but don't find them heavy enough anymore and don't really like those highpitched vocals anymore. I don't like the growls either in melodic death metal. I found some great songs from some Gothic Metal bands, but unfortunately those albums are usually filled with slow boring songs that don't do anything more than make me feel sleepy. Maybe you could give me some recomendations?

So power metal isn't heavy enough, you don't like death growls and gothic metal is too slow.

Well i dont know, have you tried Symphony X, Rage, Blind Guardian or Mercenary?

As I understand it you want power metal with female vocals or power metal without screechy/high-pitched vocals, right?

1. If you haven't already you should try After Forever and Epica. Both bands have beauty and the beast type vocals so unless you can't stand growls you should avoid them. Another option is to try any power metal band that uses female singer:Nightwish (:lol), Aina (so-so), early Dark Moor (dunno), Visions Of Atlantis (crap), Ebony Ark (great) etc.

2. Here I can recommend Morgana Lefay, Evergrey, Persuader, Mystic Prophecy, Kiuas, Last Tribe as well as those Scion already recommended. That should keep you occupied for a while.

If you don't find power metal heavy enough, I think you've just been looking in the wrong place thus far. But anyways, if you feel gothic power metal is the way to go and want heavy riffage in your metal, try The Dogma, perferably their debut Black Roses.

Dimension F3H for some heavy avant-garde power metal.

Oh yes, I almost forgot Rage. Thanks for remembering me of that band *puts a Rage cd in the cdplayer*. I'm tired of Michael Kiske clones, but I don't really think female vocals fit that well metal for my taste. I however liked 80s Doro vocals with Warlock. I think Blind Guardian's Hansi is, the optimal voice for melodic metal. I don't want happy metal a la Freedom Call, rather something darker, therefore I said gothic. I like melodies from many goth bands like for instance 69 eyes, but the problem is that is way to soft, even though they would have great potential to make that tune to a bad ass heavy tune.

I really liked that Dark Empire band, its the first time I heard of them and i will definately take a closer look...

Check out the Intense (great band I just got their latest), or Mystic Prophecy. Both bands are heavier then most power metal bands and have vocalists with deeper voices.

I'd say about half of those bands should not be on that list.

Maybe some of these, but NR, Firewind and Running Wild I'd say.

have you even heard all of those? Judging by the topic...power metal w/o high pitched vocals and are on the heavier side... I think they all fit...although I know a few don't fall in the 'classic' term of power metal

I guess the word gothic should not be in the same sentence as power metal. This thread title should be "Power Metal w/o high pitched vocals."

I had a hard time figuring out exactly what MetalMaster was looking for, and that's why I didn't pop in with some recommendations (like I usually do), but I think Sym might be on the right path...
:)

Oh, and welcome to the forum Sym! :D

You're welcome... yeah, you haven't been very active over there lately. It's not like it's a high-traffic message board though.

Do you still have your website? What was it.... Sym's Metal Pages or something????
I went to it regularly for several months, but at some point I must have wandered away (sorry).

Link?
