Opeth is one of the most consistent bands on the planet. And, while a big line-up change could either spell doom (Sepultura) or glory (Black Sabbath) for a band, I trust that Opeth will be in the latter catagory as long as they don't lose track of what makes them great in the first place.

And by mediocre, he means really really really boring.

They have a few good riffs every album but the song structures (or lack of it) fuks it up.

I find their songs are too long. They spend too much time on each riff and a 10 minute song that gets boring could have been a great 6 or 7 minute song.

A good article, I noticed a couple of spelling errors being a writer myself, nothing important although if you submit work in a professional way it's always worth checking just that extra time to make sure there are no mistakes, as it makes you look sloppy in the eyes of an employer. A good habit to get into! The writing itself is good, stick around and link to more when it comes!

As for Opeth, I've loved everything I've heard from them, and I'm expecting more greatness in the future. Long songs are great (people have no patience nowadays), and although line-up changes can be a bad thing, I think Opeth's pretty safe in Mike's hands. The next album'll be a bit more different, and the same people will either love it or bash it. I'll love it, I'm sure.

I agree, just not the way Opeth do them. I mean I can listen to Reverend Bizarre repeat the same riff for 15 minutes straight and love it but Opeth playing the same one for 2-3 minutes gets boring =|

I disagree. Listening to music is as much the effect as the music itself, and Opeth sound good, whether when you dissect it it's good or not. For me, any music comes down to its effect on me.

I totally agree with you on this, my whole life I have been interested in long songs and never been dissapointed, It´s my simple logic that if I like a 2 minute song its a shame that it ends to soon and my fun is gone in barely 2 minutes. But if i like a 10 minute song I enjoy it a lot more, for much longer! Plus i don´t find opeths riffs boring, I love everything of opeth, by parts or by complete songs. Thanks everybody for giving opinions[/quote]

yeah it's just imo that opeth tend to take too long to go from one thing to another :)

Something can be good, involve talent, creativity and originality, but you can skill hate it. Take Schönberg for example. No doubt he's a brilliant composer, but who here really likes him?
