my wireless internets is out (just a week after the same thing happened to my sister's computer), so i won't be posting much until i get it fixed.

i have 6 exams coming in the next two weeks, so i guess this is a blessing in disguise.

- once my sister also cut herself while playing with my dad's razor. lol, women.

so, yeah, good luck to everyone facing exams/the job market/life in general.

Anyway, I think that basically the answer is that the Chinese government's commitment to attracting big Western companies into China outweighs their desire to enforce their anti-union legislation. Reebok has (I believe) a universal code of conduct that states that anyone affiliated with it must respect the right of workers to bargain collectively, so had the government investigated them and taken action regarding the ballot it would have effectively barred Reebok and most likely several other big companies (Levi's is another one that has the same rules) from importing from China.

Plus, the factories, whilst producing Reebok goods, were actually owned by investors from Taiwan- and that's another group of people that the Chinese government doesn't want to scare off.

Finally, I think they managed to make the unions independent- in that workers were allowed to elect who would lead them- they allowed the official Chinese trade union confederation (controlled by the govt.) to monitor them, and they then accepted it as an affiliate member once the union had been set up. The book I got this from was written in 2003, and I haven't found information on it anywhere else yet, so at the moment I can't say whether this affiliation with the official union confederation has stopped the Reebok union functioning properly over the last four years, but I guess it's probably quite likely that it has interfered quite a lot.

Interesting. I always sort of thought that with China being Communist they wouldn't bow to a company, but I suppose no matter where you are the dollar (or substitute the local currency) trumps all.

Wow, I'm terribly out of shape.

I'm a runner and I play fastball.
Buuut, I hurt my foot in October and was out for the rest of the XC season. Aaaand I haven't threw a ball since last August.

First practice for the new fastball season today, yowch. My arm kills.

I just got a free copy of the new Marilyn Manson album 'Eat Me, Drink Me'. After giving it a listen, I shall now perform an ancient Chinese excrement ritual upon it.

Yeah, China can't really be called comunist anymore, I suppose, it began introducing market reforms quite a while ago.

It's both. It's softball, but it's tons faster than normal softball.

Bah. None of my friends share my taste in music. I have friends into metal, but none of them have even heard of Sigh or Leviathan.

Freaking out. I have a drama exam next week, and I'm considering pulling a Stephen Fry and running away to Denmark. I don't normally get stage fright, but for some reason my nerves are shot to pieces at the moment.

So why don't you introduce your friends to them?

Maybe I should. Most of my friends are into grind, and I'm more into black. My friedns who have heard Sigh find them a bit too wierd for their tastes. For me, the wierdness makes Sigh interesting. None of my friends are into black metal in general, apart from Deathcrush-era Mayhem, so I don't know how well Leviathan would go down.

Black metal that should be easy to appreciate for grind fans:

Beherit (The Oath of Black Blood), Profanatica, Havohej, Blood, Blasphemy, Conqueror, Revenge.

That Beherit's a great album.... At first it just sounds like an amateurish mess, but then you kind of stop hearing that and just hearing a cool load of noise.

Exactly. I consider it noise more than music.

Me and the guitarist of my BM band have a running list of albums that people only say they like if they are trying to be Uber-kvlt. We started it because of that album.

As terrible as a sizeable portion of it is, It does have some great moments, like the title track.

I think you could get the guys who like deathCrush to like DMDS or maybe Panzerfaust from DT. Either way, if they like it they are heading in the right direction.

I am pissed off at Sonic. I found a site where I could play the first Sonic from the master system. It was awesome, until I found out that I now seem to have no coordination and keep falling off logs in the Jungle Zone.
