Should inspire some healthy debate...
For me it has to be Megadeth. They had a longer run of great albums, and their most recent one didn't suck ass, unlike everyone elses.

I'm probably going to end up falling into the trap of telling anyone who doesn't agree with me precisely where your wrong, amigo...

Megadeth by far. I haven't heard a whole lot of Anthrax though.

Tie b/w Megadeth and Slayer. Slayer suck shit these days, but the first 3 albums are some of the best thrash ever. Megadeth have been a bit more consistent.

That's way the 'Deth clinch it for me because United Abominations was waaaaaaaay better than St Anger or Christ Illusion or whatever Anthrax released last.

I found the newest (i think its the newest) album by Anthrax, "we've come for you all" to be one of their best. It still can't compare to anything from the other three in their hey-day though.

I voted 'deth

I never really got into Anthrax's early, Thrash years, it always sounded dull compared to the others. So, anyone but them. I think Megadeth are the best, even if I prefer Slayer in Metal mood or the 'tallica if not. So, minus one for Anthrax overall, although We've Come For You All is a good album. What's their other late stuff like, unknownkadath666?

Megadeth for me too. Had this been the 90s, Slayer might have got my vote, but Megadeth definitely seem to be the most consistent. Yes, they haven't released a thrash album since 1990, so wat? They have still released quality metal albums(with the exception of Risk).

I haven't heard Anthrax but the other 3 each have a different appeal between them so I can't really decided... and I've only heard one album by each band lol.

Megadeth. Mustaine wrote consistently good music for 7 albums (well, Countdown to Extinction is weaker, but its much better than its counterpart Black Album) and along the way released two albums greater than anything anyone else in the big 4 released: Rust in Peace and Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?

On the other hand, there's Anthrax, who in the heyday were a good band, but never released anything very good until Persistence in Time and then went over to the shit side. Metallica has one excellent album in Ride the Lightning, two good ones in Kill'em All and Justice, and one mediocre one in Master, followed by a bunch of shit (before St. Anger, Risk was the worst album released by a big four band, but Metallica did so covet that title). Slayer I've always found to be overrated- I enjoy Show No Mercy and South of Heaven quite a lot, and there are some great songs on their other albums, but I don't feel that they can compete with Megadeth.

Poor Anthrax, I don't think I've ever seen them win a "big 4" vote anywhere. I voted Slayer, the most agressive of the bunch. Rust In Peace was Great, "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying" was pretty good, but none of their other stuff really interested me that much. Metallica is kind of weird because their good releases are so good, but their bad releases are so bad, that they cancel each other out.

Death, Black, and (duh) Thrash metal would not be the same without Slayer.

Anthrax is probably the least well-known, least commercially successful, and least influential of the Big Four. That's probably why they never seem to win any "Big Four Awards." Musically, they were also probably the softest and most accessible.

Note: None of these are knocks against the band as I still love them.

Megadeth for the win. I do love me some Anthrax though. The only thing I listen to from Slayer on a regular basis is Show No Mercy, and I don't really care for Master of Puppets all that much.

I'm surprised at how easy this is for Megadeth. Pleasantly surprised, because I also voted for them, but surprised nonetheless.

More inventive, better guitar playing, more humour... that's what sets them apart.

Fucking hell I could never imagine anyone could play that song quite that badly!
