I've just listened to both Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night. TDEN is a great song. Classic Dream Theater. I'm not quite sure what to make of Constant Motion, though. I definitely see the Blackened similarities. But I'm not so sure the thrash metal sound really fits Dream Theater's musical style very well. It just doesn't really sound like a DT song. I'm all for change and diversity, but I just don't know if DT's sound really mixes well with thrash metal.

They've done similar things before, but i agree, the thrash stuff in that song doesn't quite fit with their sound. I mean it's cool when they try new things but sometimes they are just a bit overambitious and want to achieve too much.

The Dark Eternal Night is frikin awesome for the first 3 minutes and then very good for the rest. I am excited for the new album and its made me wanna listen to DT alot over the past couple days.

Last night I was blasting Train of Thought and thought I heard a part that sounded alot like Blackened in This Dying Soul and now Im hearing it again in Constant Motion. If my ears heard it right, they need to mess off with that.

I'm diggin' the new stuff, even though James Labrie's voice sure has changed. He always sounded a bit yelpy when he went for the high notes anyway, so I don't mind the changes.

It's a great album and bonus dvd best since SFAM not that I didn't mind SDOIT or TOT . Octavarium didin't do a lot for me probably my least favourite DT release. Bit early to call album of the year especially with new Symphony X still to come but this is a hard album to top.

Really great album, favorite song is definitely "Prophets of War".
This is a return to form for Dream Theater after the deception that Octavarium was.

I heard the last bit of Constant Motion and almost jizzed a little bit. From that and The Dark Eternal Night, it sounds more like a continuation of the ideas from Train Of Thought, which should be pretty nifty.

After one listen, this album is really something. It's got the the heaviness, but not at the expense of the progression. I'm actually hearing a lot of different influences on this album. A little Tool, a little Mastodon, lots of different bands.

Top-notch production, which doesn't completely neuter their sound like over-slick production can.

I sat down last night and listened to it all the way through, and I'm a little disappointed. Octavarium wasn't up to par either, but I was hoping for a turn around. Anyway, I think this bad boy is slightly better than their last, but not what I was hoping for. Train of Thought still ranks the best out of their latest three.

Well you're setting the bar pretty high as Train of Though is definitely one of there three best records they have ever done... In my opinion.

Wow, and I didn't even like Train of Thought. I hated Octavarium, because it had some ridiculous songs, like that U2 ripoff, whatever its name was.

This one's really good so far, especially Prophets of War.

Haha, I actually agree. Train of Thought is tied with Awake for me. Two completley different bands, but I like them both equally.

This new one is very progressive, it will just take a little longer to get into than the last two.

TOT divides most fans, has it really got that Nu-metal influence I've heard so much about?

nu-metal ? I don't hear it except maybe on one song and thats pretty much stretching it. People hear something remotely nu-metal and they complain... give me a break! Train of Thought is excellent, even if it was nu-metal I wouldn't even give a crap.

No offense intended, just one of those rants that had to get out of my system.
