I am thinking about trying an Iron Maiden album out (I never heard any of their stuff before), so I want to know what is their heaviest and or most accessible album?

All of it is quite accessabile. Pretty much everything they created in the 80's is legendary. I would start with "The Number Of The Beast" if I were you.

Their heaviest: Powerslave, their best: Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.

I too am a bigger fan of 7th son, but I'd take Dylan's advice.

I've always been a big fan of Iron Maiden, but never got any of their actual CD's...all I've got is a greatest hits thing from back when I was just getting into metal.

But anyways, I would say The Number of the Beast is a good place to start.

I'd start with Powerslave. But the heaviest would be Brave New World. The darkest (ie: least cartoonish) would be The X Factor.

I thought I was the only one who favored 7th son.

Heaviest with Bruce on vocals is A Matter of Life and Death, and is a great album.

Their best imo is Dance of Death and The X-Factor. For older "classic" maiden i'd say Somewhere In Time and Powerslave.

You might wanna start with the classic stuff like Powerslave, but know that there is another more serious side to the band aswell.

Why heaviest? Heaviest need not mean best. If you are asking for heaviest just out of curiosity, I think No Prayer For The Dying was their heaviest. It's also their worst with Bruce. Incase you need a start, I think Powerslave would be a good place to start. As for most accessible, I guess A Matter Of Life And Death would be their most accessible for now. Fear Of The Dark could also be easily available since it was one of their most successful albums although it did get quite a bit of criticism. I like that album though. It's what made me a Maiden fan.

I have listened to some 30 sec clips from each album, and I think I like Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Powerslave the best (from the sound clips). I might try one or both of those and see if I like them. Thanks for everyones imput. I am also thinking about checking out Judas Priests British Steel, the 30 clips sounded pretty good.

The first Maiden album I bought was "The Number of the Beast". The reason was because the only songs I knew were the title track and Run To The Hills. When I was younger my mom's boyfriend let me borrow his copy. That's how I knew about Maiden. Took me awhile to get used to it. I was new to Metal back then and the first song "Invaders" is really chessy sounding. Too weird but I've grown to love it over time..
The second Maiden album I bought was "A Matter of Life or Death" I loved it. It should had gotten a 92/100.
Then I decided to go backwards and I bought "Killers". I've already heard alot of the Di'Anno stuff. I just hadn't gotten around to buying those albums or any other Maiden.

Start with "THE Number of the Beast" then work your way foward to "Piece of Mind" or go backwards and get the first two, which is the "self-titled" and "Killers". If you love really "old-school" NWOBHM, you are really gonna love this. This is the most stripped down of all the Maiden, it's really punkish and straight foward. I love the opening instrumental to the "Killers" album. Di'Anno has good energy but nothing like Dickinson.

I think Number of the Beast is the most accessible because it's the most well known. When the whole world thinks of Maiden they think of Number of the Beast. When it's just devoted metalheads they think of Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, or Seventh Son.
Hardcore NWOBHM devotees will think of the first two and nothing else.

Anyway, Powerslave and Seventh Son are the ones to get. As for Priest, I reccomend (in this order): Painkiller, Stained Class, Defenders of the Faith, Sad Wings of Destiny, Screaming For Vengeance, Angel of Retribution, Ram it Down and Sin after Sin over British Steel.

Powerslave is a nice accessible appetizer

I'd go to Number of the Beast/Somewhere in Time to really get a vibe... and then knock yourself out on 7th Son.

Start with something from the 80's. Powerslave or Somewhere in Time. But don't forget to check our there first album, it's a bit different then the stuff with Bruce but still one of their greatest.

Yeah. Painkiller RIPS !. Maiden is one of my fav band, but I would place Painkiller above anything Maiden ever did. It's just too damn AWESOME !

Youre forgetting "Unleashed In The East", id have put it right after "Stained Class", best live album ever IMO.

Just get Unleased in the East, is their best....

Sorry about the mis-spellings, It is finals week at my college, so I am kinda out of it. I checked out 30 sec clips of Painkiller, and it is pretty sweet (plus the cover art rocks). I guess I will get that instead of British Steel.
