Ugh. I hate that album. Opeth shouldn't try to do 10 minute songs of just death metal.

It's the least bestest album of theirs that I've heard. The 'duhduhdudhduh - duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh' bit at the end of the title track is pretty awesome.

It's pretty cool, just not play for 5 minutes cool. I like it on their live DVD because they only play it for 3ish minutes

Well I've owned it on CD for 2 years and still don't like it.... Just listen to the title track and Master's Apprentice for maximum enjoyable-ness

Yeah, the rest of the album is pretty worthless isn't it? Of course half of "Ghost Reveries" was crap too. I doubt Opeth ever releases an album as good as Blackwater Park again---not that that is my favorite album of theirs---but it was pretty solid.

I find pretty much all Opeth albums to be kinda a mixed bag of great stuff and boring stuff. Ghost Reveries was definitely a step up from Deliverance and I think they could release another album as good as My Arms Your Hearse/Still Life if they start using their keyboardist well

I agree that the last three haven't really stood up to BWP, but actually I am optimistic about Opeth's future. Live I actually think they are getting better and better, and I don't feel like they've actually lost anything permanently.

Bought the new Sirenia today. Kinda pop-ish but still good enough.

I listened to Deliverance again earlier - it's great. And GR lives with the keyboards.

Both of those albums are good but BWP kicks their faces in.

+1

Of course I'd say that Morningrise, Orchid or MAYH kicks even BWP's face in but I'd imagine most Opeth fans from 2001 and later would disagree with that.

Morningrise is my favourite, actually. Probably goes:

Morningrise
BWP
Still Life

Then the others fighting it out beneath those three.

Morningrise is my favorite too, and it remains an all-time top 5 for me. The melodies on that album are sublime.
