HA! I like them, though they are not as raw as Vargsang,
V.

Sorry, I mixed them up with the album "Graven" by Nortt. Will check out Graven...

Perished and Fforgotten is quite good; never cared too much for Nortt, though...

It's a great album, but my favorite Darkthrone album is Panzerfaust. :dio:

So Pure, So Cold... Transylvanian Hunger, indeed a classic.
However like you I have another personal favourite: A Blaze in the Northern Sky.

That would be the All Music Guide, a gi-normous review site covering every style of music. Here's a link to the review (TH received 2 stars) if you want a good laugh, as it is ineed an awful review by any standard:

Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger

Clearly that kind of BM just wasn't his thing, which made him a bad choice for the review. After a few listens from me, I think it's not quite the masterpiece some hail it to be (minimalistic BM is very hard to do, and not even Darkthrone get it right all the time on this album) but it's a lot closer to what they were aiming for than Under A Funeral Moon, which had one good song. I also like the very melodic riffs on TH, especially the title track and Skald Av Satans Sol. But overall it's just not as good as ABITNS.

As far as I'm concerned ABITNS will always be Darkthrone's best album, and the album I'll always listen to when I want to hear this band.

I used to favour ABITNS, but now i think TH is Darkthrones finest record by far. Of course, ABITNS is the best album in the traditional darkthrone 'style', as TH is far from a standard Darkthrone album.

What's so different about TH, It just seems like a progression from UAFM to me.

Agreed. i love Darkthrone but they really don't do anything outside of their niche. There are no real significant difference between albums if your looking at them Chronologicaly.

Not sure I can answer that really as it's kind of relative and I've only heard four albums: ABITNS through Panzerfaust. ABITNS owes a lot to Hellhammer/Celtic Frost if you ask me, whereas TH is much more minimalistic and steady blasting. Panzerfaust has them returning a bit to their earlier style and playing slower.

UAFM is more of a transition, I think, and for me it was always a harder album to get into because of that. At times, it's pretty reminiscent of ABITNS, yet otherwise it's often hinting at where they would go with TH. So yes, I agree that it's a natural progression. Yet as far as I'm aware, they didn't really do any other albums that sound quite like TH, and it doesn't really sound quite like any of their other albums (other than that it's distinctively Darkthrone, of course). And that makes sense given that there really wasn't any further that they could push that minimalistic style - or it was clear at least, that they didn't want to try to push that any farther, and so they changed things up again afterwards.

Hahahaha.

But seriously, this album is really, really horrible compared to AITNS, and is overrated like fuck.

And don't say I'm not "into" black metal -- I listen to plenty.
