I had no idea he sang for Steve Vai? What year was that stuff? It's horrible but makes for cool trivia.

Early 90s. He was 19 years old.

...it's definitely Ken.

What?

I'm really liking this album, the drum kit from hell doesn't sound good, but it doesn't sound any worse than most metal albums. It doesn't get as boring in the second half as Synchestra did, and its a lot more ambitious than Accelerated Evolution or any of the Strapping Young Lad albums so I think it might be my favourite Devin album since Terria...

I really wish he'd had Ryan drum on it though, he suited Devin's solo stuff so well >.<

Wow this is really awesome. I really expected this to be lame until I found it was an album. Wasn't there going to be a puppet show?

I remember hearing him talk about a puppet show with aliens that have death metal vocals around when Alien came out... then Ziltoid was originally going to be a myspace video type thing where he interviewed musicians, but I heard Devin is planning a support tour and stuff so he might now have time for that.

First impressions: :dio:

Better than Synchestra, although it does contain elements of the same sound. Drums sound fine.

+1 on the drums

I actually hear a lot from Terria. I'd say Terria mixed with SYL (the new black). Anyway, I deleted this from me computer, b/c I'm playing it way to much. I don't want to be sick of it by the time I buy it. I'll wait until I hear it again later on, but this could be my album of the year.

Agree on the Terria comparison - its got a 'spacey' ambience comapred to the sort of 'floating on the clouds' one noodles mentioned, but it evokes the same feeling. There's a song towards the end with very similar vocals to Wrong Side, so I do hear some The New Black in there too. All in: :dio: :dio:

Color Your World has the exact "sooner or later..." vocal line from Wrong Side and one from Physicist I think. :omfg: . I really like Solar Winds, Color Your World and The Greys :D

So I've downloaded (yeah shoot me, I'm poor at the moment) this album and been listening to it for the last few days. I have to admit that eventhough I could not get into Devin Townsend's previous works much, this one grabbed me from my first listen and I enjoy it a lot every time I listen to it. Ofcourse as with his other works, I have my grudges with this one too but the whole experience is generally very possitive.

If I'm not mistaken, this must have been out for a couple of weeks already, how come it's not reviewed yet ? I've always had the impression that Devin was a favourite among MR's reviewers.

Yeah, I'm still stuck with this in my top three of the year. I sat down and followed the entire album with the booklet and holy crap is it funny. There are little storites in between songs explaining what is going on. 90/100. This ranks up there with Terria for me.

Yeah it's a really great album, probably my 2nd favourite solo album of his behind Terria.

I love it too, all of the songs are really solid. Personally, I hate the humour, it's just not funny to me, it's like he's really trying, and usually everything just seems to come naturally to him.
