Lame response. I've been arguing this for ages on this forum, and you well know it.

Hey, I have no question that some people will like Megadeth better. But the age argument is very valid. People shy away from negativity, this is a fact. And way too many people hate on Metallica these days for it to be anything but an opinion following a trend. This is not something that applies to only this forum; it's everywhere. The hate started with Load and Reload, and Napster, and then transcended itself when the band released St. Anger.

These are generational opinions. And maybe everyone liked Metallica just because it was the thing to do. Who knows. All I know is that all this hate directed toward Metallica by most, is not based on their music. You can disagree with that all you'd like, but my opinion stands.

imo the overrated Metallica albums are Ride and Justice. i mean, both have some excellent songs, but all in all i find myself skipping more than one track when i listen to them.

yeah Master has its crappy moments (the thing that should not be), and in all-round quality it's not a strong album, but it's got a handful of some of the best metal i've ever heard (imo, of course). like i said, title track + battery + damage inc. = win!!

and Brahm, how the hell can you like Battery and not like Damage? they're very much in the same vein.

I know you have. That still doesn't make it any more relevant or valid.

I don't know about that. There definitely has been some negativity towards Metallica, but you can trace that to Load, and to a lesser extent, to the Black Album (contemporary reviews I've read bashing that album). For every one metalhead I meet who hates Metallica or even dislikes them, there are another four who not only still love Master and Ride and all those albums (not necessarily new Metallica stuff), who own t-shirts, and who worship Hetfield and Hammet. I don't doubt that some people are following a trend; but to claim that a vast majority (furthermore, to claim that you know that a vast majority) are following a trend strikes me as ridiculous. Have you taken a poll? I can once again reverse this: I know that the vast majority of Metallica haters hate them because of their music. There, now this argument is in a deadlock; we each have equal proof.

Sorry. Like I said, it's generational. Never in the history of music has there been so many haters, until now.

Null vote. I can't judge Master of Puppets fairly seeing as it was one of my first ever metal albums. It holds too much of a special place in my heart.

This is absolutely ridiculous. This is proof of how trends sway opinions. I'm sorry. Before it became cool to hate Metallica and Lars, and respect Dave, it was the complete opposite. Everyone shit all over Megadeth. Five years ago, if this were on any metal forum, there wouldn't be a single vote for Megadeth.

It drives me nuts to see so many of you younger fans talking so much shit about an album that was a classic before you were born. It's just so easy to hate Metallica these days. It's a sickening trend. And that's exactly what it is—a trend.

Someone create a new forum for those of use who were born before 1993, please.

wtf?!?!?

I didn't realise i had to be born before an album was released to have an opinon on it!! If only i was born 8 months earlier, then i could shit on Master all i want! :lame:

I didn't say you couldn't have an opinion. I'm saying that it's clear that trends affect opinions. That's all.

I've never been a big fan of Megadeth so even though MoP is only my 3rd favorite Metallica album I voted for it.

Yay me for not following trends!

It seemed to me that people looked down on Metallica after Load and Reload but then with St. Anger that discontent turned into extreme hatred of almost everything they've done besides RTL.

Every song on RiP and MoP is awesome. MoP just doesn't seem as thrashy though but it makes up for that with the self-titled track and battery.

I think i have to go with Megadeth in this one. I don't know why so many people freak out about Master of Puppets, Rust in Piece is way better.

RIP is one of my all time favourite albums so i have to go with that one, so many fucking classics are on this one.

About all of that trend and generational talk eyeswhore :) is giving us, i cant completely disagree because not only im not as old as Ken but also back in the 80s it was really difficult to get some metal here in México, by 1989/90 when i began listening to metal i do remember that Megadeth werent as praised as they are today, Metallica on the other hand was the big shit, Hetfield was a god, Kirk was a hero and Mustaine was just that drunk asshole that got kicked out of Metallica, but when RIP came out people here went crazy, every metalhead was talking about how great this album was, Megadeth became the big shit and people started to take sides between both bands like some kind of political contest, if all of this is in fact a trend, its a trend thats been around for more than 15 years, i dont know how were the things in the US but for me this debate between Megadeth and Metallica is nothing new.

I don't hate Metallica, I just don't see what's so unbelievably great about Master Of Puppets. Ride The Lightning is their masterpiece in my mind.

I can even admit to liking songs off both Load and Reload, but Megadeth has released more solid albums than Metallica at this point, it's as simple as that. And I highly doubt that the new Metallica will be even half as good as the new Megadeth, not because of trendy opinions, but because Metallica have made it a trend of their own to write half-assed songs lately. :lame:

Megadeth are clearly in the lead now. There's no doubt there. And I like Master of Puppets better than Ride The Lightning because I like every song on MoP, but I can't stand "Trapped Under Ice." I think that song is crap.

not only is trapped under ice a great song, Master has a few turds here and there - namely "the thing that should not be". that's one of the worst songs the old metallica ever did, imo.

Same vein, but one has good riffs and is thrashing to me while the other does not and seems very forced.

Why all the "The Thing That Should Not Be" hate? I mean it's far from their best, but I think it's a solid tune. Heavy as hell, atleast live.
