Ken, why am I not allowed to dislike Jingle Bells while I liked it when I was 6? My taste changes, so does my opinion on music, give me one good reason why I should still like what I previously listened to.

Pretty much agree. I do believe that it is possible to dislike what you once liked.

LISTEN TO M83

I dont see anything wrong in that. Guess your tastes are expanding, that's all. There are definitely a lot of people on this forum who listen to stuff other than metal. I must admit that you were the last person I thought would come up with something like this. Bang on ! :dio:

"Jingle Bells." When you were 6. Let's keep it logical. Also, please re-read what I said. I never said you can't stop liking something. In fact, I said the precise opposite.

some time ago i'd open up itunes and i'd know exactly what artist i wanted to lsiten to, as i'd listen to them for days at a time, it's been a while since i've found or rediscovered something that grabs me by the balls like that.

Same, it hasn't happened since my obsession with Converge in Septemberish :(

my last.fm 3 month chart is very sad and non-fabulous

edit: also Ken didn't say it wasn't possible to dislike what you once liked, but that you shouldn't turn around and say it sucks.

oh yeah, btw, what i said didn't apply to metal, it applied to music in general.

but being a close-minded prick (the whole "IT HAS TO BE FAST OR MY ATTENTION SPAN WILL PREVENT ME FROM LIKING IT" thing kind of helps) i very much doubt metal will ever stop being my favourite genre.

I'm kind of like that too, except maybe replace "fast" with "agressive and uncompromising". I'll like any style of music but it has to sound like the band is going all out without much concern for what the listener wants to hear :P

Ok, but then I'm not allowed to say that at 6, my musical taste was immature and I now realise that Jingle Bells is bad in comparison to Charles Ives?

But then you wouldn't go out of your way to badmouth Jingle Bells and tell everyone how much it sucks.

I, however, never liked Jingle Bells, so I feel I have full moral authority to tell you all it is a crap christmas song.

Misha ftw!

I agree with Misha. When you learn more about something, you become a better judge of quality. It's like a gourmand eschewing Velveeta for camembert. That's not to say someone can't like both Velveeta and camembert, but they still might acknowledge that the camembert is better.

A six-year-old doesn't know any better. A teenager does.

Well, as I teenager I thought Papa Roach were good. Then I heard Iron Maiden and it became evident that PR stole every fucking roff from them, thus, they suck. A 6 year old knows something, a teenager knows more, despite this relative difference, I cannot see why I can't compare. I think you just don't like that everyone thinks the nu-metal you listen to sucks, just because it sucks. I have absolutely no problem if you don't want to get past that stage, but other people including me think differently.

If you don't like something that you previously liked then it means you didn't really ever liked it that much.

that sounds rather stupid to me ... but i agree, nonetheless :D - fits with my previous taste because i don't knew what the hell i was doing.

however, ppl change - some ppl know exactly what they're doing, but simpe change over time. Some wants to try something new because they grew tired of the old shit. That's why so many ppl get divorced
