That would be a BAAAD suggestion! :D

You probably already know of the three big names: Boris, Sunn O))), and Earth. If, by chance, you haven't heard any of them, try the Boris/Sunn O))) collaboration Altar, Boris' Absolutego or Amplifier Worship, Sunn O)))'s 00 Void, and Earth's Earth 2. That's the place to start.

Beyond that, check out Hlidolf, Marzuraan, Azva, or Darsombra, but only if you liked what you heard from the big three.

It's a very, very obscure genre, even for doom, so let me know if you need help tracking anything down.

Thanks for the suggestions.I've found a place which sells all the Sunn O))) records, and I was quite intrigued by Black One. What do you think?

Amazing album, though it really doesn't sound like the rest of their stuff.

The Angelic Process

My personal fav, very epic and powerful drone metal. Just hit the player in the top right corner. Review on this site, I suggest getting Coma Waering. In the player, Crippled Healing is from that album.

I 2nd Altar, that is a great album and I don't really like that kind of music but this is one is really good.

There is new project called Khlyst with James Plotkin and the chick that sang on Thorrs Hammer that is really cool too.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about Khlyst. I've only listened to it once, but I intend to listen to it a few more times. You should see the review in the next few weeks.

Cool, I like that sort of ambient/noise Black Metal at times, reminds me of Stallag a lot actually.

One more question, do you mean drone metal or just drone, because that's quite a difference. In the case of the latter, I suggest staying away from 60s-and-on drone, as well as eastern classical drone until you dig drone metal, which is relatively accesible.

By the way, in case anyone else is interested in drone, here is an excellent piece:
http://rapidshare.com/files/16674440/kzonqsd.RAR.html
I've taken this link from this amazing blog:
http://194142434445.blogspot.com/index.html
Also be sure to check out The Dream Syndicate - Day Of The Holy Mountain (it's on there too). It features LaMonte Young on his soprano sax, which is extremely rare on its own. It's a 1964 recording but it's simply one of the most stunning drone works I've heard so far.

I would reccomend trying to get into Jesu first, as they're probably the most accessible Drone(-ish) I've heard, although that's really not saying much at all.

Drone isn't an easy genre by any stretch of the imagination, so don't give up on it if it doesn't click the first few times you listen to it
