Why does nobody like that album as much as Ecliptica or Silence?
I prefer the catchiness of WG over Silence actually. The last album with the boat on the cover tho was dissapointing for me tho :(. I rarely even listen to it.

I think Broken and Victoria's Secret are among their best songs, but some of that album is just decent to me. As for Reckoning Night (the boat album), I think it suffers from the same problem. Don't Say A Word, My Selene, Misplaced, Shamandalie and Ain't Your Fairytale are great, but a song like The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Real Puppet is just downright silly in my mind.

Blind Guardian by far (out of those on the list) but Manticora, Jag Panzer, Virgin Steele and Kamelot should be on that list. Besides BG, Helloween, Stratovarius and Gamma Ray, none of the bands on this list are great.

Good list, although Kamelot's probably my favorite pm band (and they're missing in action).
So I'll take Nightwish...

I love Winterhearts Guild! Shit, I even think Reckoning Night is a killer album. I think Silence is their worst, however.

Angra and Blind Guardian for me. Then Helloween and Gamma Ray. Pointless poll btw.

It would have been easiest to start the thread without a poll, but who would then have had time to manually count the votes through hundreds of posts and then there would probably be many that would have voted for several bands.

I think I added to largest European powermetal bands to that list, so just pick your favorite. Here are another few larger players in the scene that i left out Heavenly, Manticora, Kamelot, Dragonforce, Dragonland, Axenstar, Dreamtale, Lost Horizon, Cryonic Temple, Domine, Freedom Call, Iron Savior, Wuthering Heights,Blood Bound... however, I think nobody of these would had a chance to win this poll and therefore I left them deliberately out to make it easier to find your favorite.

Iced Earth is not powermetal, so lyou better learn to live with it ;)

This kind of poll is a great idea but it's appearently a hard task to make everyone happy with the choises (and personally i would've made a few small changes tbh). I'd say you did a good job though.

Maybe a separate discussion thread would've been needed to conclude which bands should be in the poll.

Just because you keep saying it doesn't make it so.

Silly poll, I can't be bothered voting.

Gotta agree there. Ken, I think you need to go listen to Angel of Retribution again so you can see the error of your ways. :D

So many great bands are missing I would have to say Heavenly and Elvenking for me Mystic Prophecy are pretty good also. Don't like the way some powermetal bands are going.

I think frigid is so blinded (no more - haha) by his love for SA that he can't be truly be objective when comparing them even to a recognized classic in the genre. SA is really good, but Ecliptica is basically an imitatation of the better aspects of Stratovarius, and while this isn't a bad thing, I think it prevents the album from being given such lofty status. It's a great debut, but to compare it to Blind Guardian's better albums? No way.

And what's this about Imaginations filler? Considering that nearly every song on this album was performed on the DVD due to fan demand, I doubt it. I think frigid has a tin ear sometimes

I hate Silence. It bores me to death for some reason. Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night are really good.

Must be that tin ear of yours. Silence was my first power metal album (purchased). I love every song on it.

Maybe it is. I have never been able to identify anything specifically wrong with Silence. I just can't get into most of the songs. I want to like it, but I just can.t - not even the live versions from the DVD.

No Kamelot, so put Edguy, although BG were a close second. And Iced Earth's OTTness puts them in the Pow-Met catagory, I think.

Does anyone really care? Why do you want to know this?
