She's used to me playing metal in the car, and has been ever since my numerous trips downstate for all my legal troubles... those were 3 hrs there and back. She said, "Bring music to help yourself relax." Anyway, that was back then. We trade off the car, driving to work in the mornings and again when going home, so there's always bout 2 hours of driving time in our daily schedule... the other day, when I dropped her off at work, she I turned to say bye, and she was sobbing.

I figured, "Oh great, I prolly called her a name, or something..." like normal, but later in the week, she asked me if my music ever depressed me. Then she said "That one you played the other morning, it was so sad."

Hahahah. Anyway, pretty good album. 85/100.

I am unaware of Negura Bunget. Info?

Wow. I should get that album, I thought the other one with the four songs was quite an original and solid slap.

I've listened to it a few times over the last week, I can tell they're doing something cool but it just hasn't clicked with me yet because I'm not really used to black metal.

One of the best black metal albums i have ever heard, so different so original. Unique sound.

hmm.. i think i should check it out i did buy 'n Crugu Bradului a few years ago, but never followed up on them.... just heard a little sample from it.. pretty nice .. however.. i didn't cry

It's about black metal, and an interesting event that one album caused. Police something else.


Sometimes, I find the more sorrowful metal albums to be really soundtracky to surreal depressions, and intense moments of thought will ultimately be immortalized by the song in the future... and seem more epic than it really was. I find revisiting the songs harder, if they are really tied in with deep stuff... but new material usually brightens me up, even if it is sad. That being said, I think my ma is just an outsider who got caught off guard.

I think it's interesting though, because normally parts like the non-black metal parts of the album kinda kill it for me, but for this record, they seem to help. They're boring, but they make the force of the actual black metal FAR more anticipated, and for more appreciated.

The flute or wind instrument in track 4 that sounds just like a moist lip whistle also reminds me a bit of Rammstein, and they had a dark tone. Some may not agree, but they always had a pale, dark, askew tone that made me feel like something wasn't "right."

Anyway, I'm glad Blood in our Wells isn't the only BM album of 06 to envoke emotions that seem like one's own.

Yeah, I find that with a lot of interludes too. They sort of create a downtime for your brain to absorb what it just heard and prepare for what's coming next, like those panning shots of cities and landscapes in movies.

I've always found it weird that people get depressed or cry from music, even the sad songs that I like give me an uplifting, "that hit the spot" feeling rather than making me sad.

Om was the best album I heard last year.

I posted about it a few months back but I got hardly any response.

I think a couple of the interludes are a little pointless too but it is an extremely minor issue.

But, in terms of the interludes, a band that has released something with the with same tactic of an electronic interlude every other song is Mithras... Worlds behind the Veil does it, and it's done right... like, it's Morbid Angel, meets Negura Bunget's interludes, and they actually kick ass. Highly recommended. Forever Advancing Legions = Awesome as well. MOST BIZARRE ALBUM EVER. I don't care how orthadox or done the approach is, it always weirds me the fuck out.

Exactly, I could "jack it" to certain songs that I'm sure would basically be "over aggressive "moron" music" to people who know jack about metal. Hit's the spot for some, but seems evil and uncharted to newbs.

I wasn't asking for cool points(You've got them all already for blasting Nachtmystium), just wondering where everyone was at the time. Mithras is great, I love some of their transitions, but sometimes I wish that they'd use more metal.

Om is an excellent album. Get the digipack with the DVD if you can, the music videos made of nature shots are breathtaking.

And what's their earlier output like?

Good album. It's been growing on me. I now think it's the best bm album of 2006, after Klage. I bought the digipack with the DVD too, pretty cool stuff.

Btw, I saw Terrorizer put Om in fourth place on its annual top, which is good for NB. Though the rest of that top is pretty shitty.

Bullshit!! best top 40 of the year! it contained enslaved, negura bunget, i, nachtmystium, anaal nathrakh, gorgoroth, antaeus, blut aus nord, meads of asphodel, and drudkh.

thats a lot of bm for a mainstream mag to say is some of the best music of the year. there are heaps of more mainstream records that could easily have filled a top 40 in a less quality mag!!

Well yeah, there is some good stuff in that top, but there's also a lot of bands that I would never put there, not to mention some very shitty albums (Now Diabolical stands out). And the Enslaved, Gorgoroth and Blut Aus Nord albums are subpar albums, comparing to what these bands can do. There was so much better black metal in 2006 (new Klage, Archgoat, Blood Red Fog, Krieg etc.) that got ignored by Terrorizer. In fact, they only nominated the more well known bm bands, that's all they did, imo.

Oh and it's a very incomplete death metal top also, there are Napalm, CC, Suffocation and Deicide, but where are the tech death bands like Martyr, Spawn Of Possession, The Faceless etc, where are the great swedes (Unleashed - such a great album, Grave, Dismember), where is fucking Vader, Krisiun, Misery Index, Sinister, Zyklon or Belphegor, and many others.

Side note: I LOVE Nachtmystium. I was blasting the man behind it, ie Blake. He's a primodanna. "We were never really black metal..." It's like how Jim Sadist put it, and it's so true, "I love Venom, etc etc, (stuff about how much he loved Venom), but I don't wanna meet Cronos... He might turn out to be a dick, and I might not like the music as much." Not saying I like or dislike the music anymore or less than before, but Blake's a dick. I didn't explain myself back when I posted, because he'd shown just as little respect for black metal, where he got his sound, and Chicago, where his craft was born. I just felt like insulting him. Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, I remember your thread, and it made me look into getting Om, but lack o $$$ for a while resulted in a response to the album coming up now. So don't worry, your cool points are safe.

I'd have agreed on the Mithras thing after my first few listens, but I think they have a good equillibrium now that I've given their material a fair number of spins.

Fair enough, I'm just glad somebody checked out Om because I made a thread about it: even if my description of the album was woefully inadequate. I'll give both Mithras' albums more listens-some of their solos are ridiculous!-I like them a good bit as it is already though. Thanks for explaining your reasoning about Nachtmystium, I had no idea how serious you were.
