DragonForce argument...

My friend and I were arguing over DragonForce, he said that there is only a couple of musicians that can keep up with the guys from DragonForce. I asked, "Who are the guys who can keep up?" his answer "the only people that can keep up with dragon force are the drummer for all the remains and the guitarist from nevermore" (exact copy and paste). I laughed at this answer, but can anyone prve him wrong. Then I will send him the link next time I see him. Thank you.

PS - I tried to argue with him, but it was late and I couldn't think of anybody. So I came here.

Indeed. What's really asinine about his argument is that a great many musicians in metal can play at hyperspeed if they feel like it, but they have chosen other styles that don't always give them a chance to showcase this fact.

Oh, and if he thinks Jason Costa of All That Remains is the epitome of a fast drummer, tell him to go listen to Pete Sandoval on Maze of Torment and get back to you.

Indeed. Is there any connection between All That Remains, Nevermore and Dragonforce btw? They play 3 completely different styles.

guthrie govan is just amazing at every style you care to name. Trust me! he really is! He teaches at my college and all the other guitar tutors (who in their own right are pretty fucking amazing) think hes one of the best in the world. Check him out on youtube when u get ur new connection.

People who say Dragonforce guitarists are amazing really annoys me because pretty much every live video or whatever I've seen their solos have been ridiculously sloppy :\

I don't think you can compare the 2 Dragonforce guitarists with Guthrie Govan or Satch or Stevie or Yngwie or Gilbert etc etc. While those first 2 are speed guitar-wankers, gunthrie and the rest are serious musicians and artists above all. They're not trying to prove anything because they don't have to. Comparisons like who's the fastest guitarist, drummer etc only prove the immaturity and lack of musical depth& understanding of the people who do them.

Not that he's in the same field of music, but...

Moyses Kolesne of Krisiun is probably better than both Herman and Sam, as well. He's been doing that speed since they were fiddling around in that black metal group... BFD came out in 1995. Listen to that, and tell me... Tell me he's not fucking insane.

And, in case anyone has some shit remark about him not being on the level with other's mentioned, his passion falls into both metal and jazz guitar. He both understands the art of guitar, and has taken original metal guitar material to a new level. He's the perfect mix of technical genius and self taught wonder.
