I agree with him on this one. I generally take a positive view of lineup changes because, yes it sucks to see a band member go, but its not like the band is just going to pick up some random guy off the street to replace him.

He's right except he fails to mention that Opeth is really boring.

Let's ignore this comment, shall we?

Personally, I've had it with Opeth, but the guy's right about all these whiners. For fuck's sake, he's replaced an excellent drummer with an excellent drummer. Lacking musicianship has and will never be a problem with a band like Opeth; right now they need to produce a good album that will make me love them again.

I agree with him, i don't like opeth, but damn a couple of drums forums i visit ride opeth hard and when lopez left the band all of them were saying how bad Axenrot is.

Go listen to nightmares made flesh and tell me he's bad mmk.

Hahaha. But yeah, he's a fantastic drummer.

Generally agreed. Who cares who they have drumming...they just need to make a better album next time.

And I'm glad Mikey is aware of some of the "idiot" fanboys of his. Opeth fans would be in the running as one of the worst fanbases.

It takes a lot of guts to say what Mikael said, it's not everyday that you see a band slamming his own "fans", anyway I think their argument has a point when they say that Lopez was more "jazzy" but saying that Axe is a bad drummer or something for beeing "straight forward", you must have to be an idiot to say a thing like that, does this guys listen to Bloodbath?

I'm in full suport of Mikael, Axe and the rest of the band. Long live Opeth - from a true fan.

Personally i think that Lopez is one of the best drummers out there, I dig his style of playing very much, even though Axe is great, I'm a bit sad Lopez left the band.

And what are you guys talking about, Ghost Reveries is an awsome album, almost as good as Blackwater Park. :)

I'm not sure about it being better than Blackwater Park, but it's a great album. Love those Hammonds.

I can see boths sides in this. In one way I think he's right about some of the fans, but on the other hand I think a professional musician should be able to take some critisism without lashing out the way he did. I dunno but I think I'll start losing interest in Opeth if next cd isn't better than the last, and I also think I'm losing some respect for Mike, he seems a little arrogant from time to time.

Ghost Reveries had it's moments, but overall it's together with Orchid my least favorite of theirs. Still Life however

What's the point of slamming the guy before he's even played a note with the band yet? I'm pretty sure that was the point Mikeal was trying to make.

I think Ghost Reveries was an interesting experiment and a lot better than Deliverance, or equal to Blackwater Park. They keyboards and jazzy parts didn't suit Opeth, although if they use them better on the next album it could be really cool.

I've seen them live with Axenrot. Nothing to complain about at all.

Well, as the poster above me said, he has done some live shows already. I saw him at a Swedish festival more than half a year ago, and I thought he did fine. I do agree though that some fans whine and moan too much about things they probably know nothing about.

he has a right to response, certainly. This is metal, after all. Turning the cheek simply doesn't come into it...

havent posted anything in a while.... although he is right... thats way to harsh the way he came down on his fans.... fans will be fans and they have every right to be skeptic of the new drummer... change is good but change is scary

You should've seen what was going on Dimmu Borgir's forum a little more than a year ago, when they were about to release the revamped Stormblaast.
