I would definately call this gem of an album true hard rock. It is by far the heaviest and most hardrocking album Meat has never done and the production is just amazing. A great choir and the Melbourne Symphony orchester in the background just building up the choruses, very impressing.
The title track seemed a bit too nu-metal for me to begin with, but it will grow on to you and after each listen you will end up loving it even more => a pure metal gem!
Land of the pigs is a very intresting tune, nothing like anything you heard before. Some kind of symphonic gothic metal with meat loaf influnces, will take a few listens before you grow into it, but once you do, you will really appreciate this original tune.
There was also a track that was about 10 minutes and starts off with a 2 minutes orchestra. This track was meant to be on Batman the musical written by Jim Steinman (land of the pigs was also part of this project), but the project was abonded. Very great song, however, Jim stole the main riff from Back Into hell from Bat2 album.
The songs very A LOT, however keeping up the very high standard. I'm Alive sounds like a big bon jovi smash hit from the 80s spiced up with gospel choirs...
Very good album and I think "If God would talk" is really also an awsome track. The only 2 tracks that i don't really feel keeping the high standard of this album would probably be the 2 last tracks. The album will grow on you. Give it a chance, since it is like no other album in your collection.
