The Stench of Redemption is Deicide's big comeback. But what of Scars of the Crucifix? I'm listening to it just now, and I'm saying hit. It's not in the same league as the album that would follow, and a lot of the songs still seem rushed (its only 26 minutes long if you forget about that piano bit at the end) but I don't see anything seriously wrong with it, but it often seems to get lumped in with their later albums on Roadrunner as being crappy.

I thought it was the best thing they had done in years. It's furious as fuck. Basically it was exactly like the post-Legion albums, but the songwriting was a million times better.

Dude, SoR was not their comeback. Scars WAS. Stench just took it to a new level. People were just so fucking raped still by the lameness of Insinerathymn and In Torment in Hell, Scars went COMPLETELY under the radar.

Also, a poser reviewer here gave it a shit score because it wasn't melodic, or in the new vein... Which could explain it's lack of following on these forums.

HIT HIT HIT

^^^^

What these gentlemen said.
A bit too short and a tad too monodimensional, but a hit nonetheless. Plus, compared to the turds that preceded it, it's nothing short of miraculous.

i bought scars even before joining this forum, or before discovering MR for that matter. I bought it after hearing the first track which i thought was pretty good at the time. However, i didn't find anything interesting about the rest of the tracks and i still don't, which is why i sold the album later on.

It's not good at all IMO, with all the great death metal albums out on 2004, this one is a total miss.

Deicide has their own brand of DM. You gotta give this brand a chance, ignore the tech shit for a while. :) (JK you know I love you. )

I haven't heard it, but Deicide kick fucking ass. I hate it when people dislike the old Deicde because of the lead work-the Hoffman brothers wheren't exactly neo-classical masters or anything but the leads sounded fucking cool! (See Crucifixation)
