I agree on both counts.

I´m wondering where Amorphis - Eclipse should go. There are lots of (melodic) death metal there, but also songs like House of Sleep that are more like heavy metal.

EDIT: I checked the review and it classifies Eclipse as "Progressive / Folk Influenced Heavy Metal". Prog then ? Heavy ? Death ?

I would say they go into the Doom forum now. They're more like doom-death now when they use the death vocals; and kind of gothic when singing. Disregard the genre labels some reviews affix to reviews (some are ridiculous).

I've been telling people to put them in the avant-garde, or I as like to refer it, the voting thread for genreless albums.

No way are they doom.

Doom-death, yo! I was just trying to find the closest genre. I'm going to step back; you're the host.

There are definitely elements of doom, but I wouldn't see it as doom. I'm a bit biased since its my favorite genre and I want it to sound a certain way.

Host? Come on man, this is a TEAM effort!

I'd put Amorphis under dark/gothic metal more than doomdeath, there are only very few elements of the original 1000 Lakes style left.

Yeah, it's not 100% thrash, but it's closer to thrash than death.

I honestly loved Lair of the Minotaur's Ultimate Destroyer and I'm guessing it'd go under thrash (I noticed that the site review had it as doom/thrash...) but just wanted to clarify.

And, as far as some of the categories go, do the bands get placed there due to their initial output placing them into a genre? For instance, I loved the new Satyricon, but I'd be hesitant to call it black metal (a damn fine thrash album, I thought). And Enslaved seem to be more avant than straight black at this point (to me, anyway)....

I loved it too, one of the surprises of the year for me. Putting it under thrash is fine. It's definitely not doom, more like sludge on speed, but thrash will work.

I understand what you're saying, and you've got a point, but go ahead and put them both under black since it appears a few others already have.

Apart from the Enslaved, which is fucking awsome, I agree!

Is Bal-Sagoth even black metal? It's more like flowerish darkened just a little to piss me off metal.

And the new Satyricon first! WOW!

I was wondering about Bal-sagoth too. It's not usual black metal, that's for sure, but where else should it be put?

Edit: Well I put Bal-Sagoth in death. If it's not fitting I can always change it.

And where the hell did the black metal voting thread go? It just disappeared! I wanted to add Twilight ophera, because I consider it to be enough black to get qualify.
