So I'm about to buy a Christmas present for my dad. He's a big music fan, has played in a rock'n roll band and has a somewhat big collection of albums. The problem these days is, he has a hard time getting into anything he is unfamiliar with. Yesterday he told me he wanted the new Beatles album Love and I thought to myself; no. Buying the same songs he already has in a new package is crazy. He needs to hear something new for once, however, I'm not really in the position to choose something he might like.
Our tastes in music differ greatly, and I don't know much about rock.

He likes stuff like The Beatles, Deep Purple, some Led Zeppelin, some Elvis, Rolling Stones, Nationalteatern, Kent, Status Quo, and lots of boogie-woogie bands I don't remember. Famous good ole happy rock.
Now, to the point of this thread. Is there anyone who could recommend me an album to give away from a band that he probably has not heard?
I thought Mercenary at first, but that is way too heavy, as an example.

I apologize if there is a double post of this. Something weird happened the first time I posted.

The Tea Party, Edges of twilight or Splendor Solis.
Anyone loving Led Zepplin and rock mixt with middle eastern instrumentation should love any of those two albums.
Splendor Solis was their debut album and sounds like bluesy rock mixte in with eastern instrumentation. Edges of Twilight is Rock fused with middle eastern music. Both albums are great buys.

And if your still unsure you might want to take a look at their Tangents album which regroups a collection of some of their best songs. It may be a better choice for someone new to the band.

Songs that may help you decide that are from Edges of Twiolight and Splendor Solis: Sister Awake, The Bazaar, Fire In The Head, a Certain Slant of light, The River, Save me
