MP3s don't count, fucker!

I can assure that all the mp3's I own were purchased legally (Napster, eMusic, etc.). Any of the illegal variety were not shown as being owned by me.

Well, there's a few reasons. First, the artists get some form of kickback. I hate pirating shit from bands I enjoy. A lot of these bands aren't exactly rolling in money, and it's people with an attitude like yours (no offense) toward downloading that make it tougher. Second, I never have to worry about viruses, shitty quality sound, or REALLY slow downloads. The only restrictions I know of come from Napster in that you can't transfer the files to an mp3 player. Of course, there is a program called tunebite that you can purchase for around $18 that peels this restriction off. Not a bad deal really, considering you can download unlimited songs for $9.99/month.

And I guess Tunebite can be downloaded and cracked illegaly

But seriously, DRM protection and shit is just the wrong way to go. Putting restrictions on things you buy legally is a weird strategy. What if you bought a new car and the seller told you that you could only drive with it in your own state, otherwise you would have to hire a mechanic to remove the "protection".

Actually, from what I read, tunebite is legal. I agree that DRM is ridiculous, but the fact still remains that I've obtained upwards of 150 albums on Napster over the past year. At a cost of $10/month and a onetime tunebite purchase of $18, that's a pretty damn good deal, 150 albums for around $138. However, Napster is the only site I know that does DRM. eMusic's files are not protected, but then again you only get a certain amount of downloads per month. All things considered, I'd rather just have the CD's. Too bad they cost so damn much.

Tunebite is probably legal, I just meant that most software can be downloaded and cracked. But it does not really matter.
It does sound like a good deal, and I agree with CDs. With my limited credits, I rather buy something else than 10 songs on an album where most of the money don't go directly to the artists anyway. But let's not have this get into another one of those music piracy threads here

Haha, yeah, I really don't want to start one of those. Actually, I don't feel as strongly about it as some do, I just personally don't like downloading shit from Limewire, Kazaa, eMule, etc. Yeah, I feel a bit bad for the bands, but mostly I don't like it cause those programs always end up frying my computer with spyware, viruses, and other scary things.

I didn't realize it was that cheap, but paying for DRM still seems pretty lame... and I like having the CDs since I'd probably accidentally delete the mp3s. I use soulseek for donwloading and Ive never had a problem with viruses or spyware from it... speeds are generally kind of slow though unless you find a user with a big collection and fast modem :P

Heres mine:
http://rateyourmusic.com/~Caldogg

As you will see, the majority are MP3s (all the ones I didn't mark as owned are all MP3s), and there are a fair few I haven't put on, mainly because I haven't listened to them enough to give an honest score.

What makes me really glad, apart from Wintersun in the top, is to see Augury at 36:th spot. They are a true gem and I hope they'll wip up another album soon.

Their guitarist has a Cynic/Pink Floyd/Atheist influenced instrumental album coming early next year that shuold kick ass, hopefully the band will get something going... I think they spent most of 2006 looking for a drummer :(

I like our metal list... I like how in the top 15 its got everything from Mars Volta to Blind Guardian to Wintersun to Sodom :P
