Sonata......Arctica?

No wait...i reconsider its gotta be Hammerfall :P

On a more serious not i would have to say Burzum. One Ep and 4 albums which are all among the top bm albums ever (and two possibly are the best ever bm albums)

In pm though, i would say Bodom have neve released a bad album for me.

The first five Megadeth and Metallica album—no diggity, no doubt.

There isn't an outright bad album among them, but So Far So Good So What and Metallica aren't even very good, never mind masterpieces.

You can argue So Far So Good, but the black album is a masterpiece. Maybe not to the metal purist, but there isn't a bad song on that album. Not even close.

Must..................not...................comment, pretend..........I..........didn't...........see..........Masterpiece........and Black Album in the same sentance............ Just walk away......

Jesus Ken what next ......

Do we only get to count Pwr and Trad Metal bands in this topic?

Emperor had an excellant run, so did Immortal and Opeth up to Still Life

Burzum had a better run than emperor.

Also, for usbm, Leviathan and Krieg and Xasthur have all had good runs.

Maiden immediately comes to mind. But then, I haven't listened to all the albums listed by other posters. Maybe just some of them by the respective bands, so it's hard to tell. But as of now, I can't think of any band that tops Maiden.

Behemoth, the Death Metal Era. Arcturus, entire discovery. Emperor, from second album. Insomnium, from second album. Moonsorrow, entire discovery. Hollenthon, entire discovery. Septic Flesh, entire discovery. Ulver, entire Discovery. Agalloch, entire discovery. Windir, from second album. Winds, entire discovery. King Crimson, entire discovery. Enslaved, last three albums.

Hmm... I pretty much like the black album. But I can think of atleast a couple of bad tracks. The God That Failed had a pretty weak chorus. My Friend Of Misery was nothing special. I liked Of Wolf And Man, but the chorus sounded something like, "Shame , Shame" which I felt pretty funny.

I can't believe none of you have mentioned Death yet. They're one of those rare bands where pretty much every album they've released has been a masterpiece.

Anyway, I totally disagree with those saying the Black Album and Countdown To Extinction are masterpieces. The Black Album has may be six good songs (Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, Of Wolf And Man, The God That Failed, The Struggle Within) and one decent song (Nothing Else Matters). The other five (Holier Than Thou, Don't Tread On Me, Through The Never, My Friend Of Misery, and yes The Unforgiven) are garbage IMO. And Countdown To Extinction is a good album but does get old after a while (and it has this very "unfinished" sound to it that really bothers me). Youthanasia and The System Has Failed are better IMO.

I agree with you for the most part because everthing Death has done has been amazing. Good call

If you consider releasing the same album 5 times a good run. Agreed about Krieg though.

Leviathan has released a fuckload of demos, but just two full lengths if i'm not mistaken?

I liked Enslaved's old stuff better. The material they had on the split with Emperor was awesome. But maybe it's because that split was among the first BM albums i heard.

Blind Guardian should be noted. I personally think they nailed it with Somewhere Far beyond, Imaginations From the Other Side, and Nightfall in Middle Earth in a row. before and after those are Tales from the Twilight World and A Night at the Opera, which also come pretty close. If ANATO had better production values and TFTTW did not include Tommyknockers, it would have been five for me. Still, that's a good run.

Whats wrong with Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers knocked at your back door?

You broke my heart with this post. I read through 2 in a half pages without seeing anyone mentioning Death. Then I read your post...I wanted to be the one who called everyone out on Death! :P Oh well, that's why your awesome, and that's why my timing sucks.

You know I might get flamed (badly) for this but I think Maiden and Guardian are overrated. Now I really like these bands, but I would take Judas Priest over Iron Maiden and Iced Earth over Blind Guardian. It could be just because I've been listening to Priest and IE longer but maybe it's just me.

Now for my bands: Death obviously 1987 - 1998. 11 years of pure greatness, 7 albums.

Sodom - Persecution Mania, Agent Orange, Better Off Dead, Tapping the Vein, Get What You Deserve. MIB kind of sucked but they picked back up with Till Death Do Us Unite, then Code Red,
M-16, and Sodom. The only band to come back from a shitty boring album to release 4 in a row that kick ass.

Priest '76 - '80 back in '82 - '84 back in '90...
Sabbath '70 - '75 (I would say till '77 but I've never heard Technical Ecstacy, but it made top 10 for 1977, should I get it?)
Maiden '80 - '90
Slayer '83 - '90
Metallica '83 - '89
Megadeth '85 - '93
Anacrusis (bitches!) '88 - '93
Tankard '86 - '06 (haha fanboy I know)
Atheist '89 - '93

Thats a lot but I think they all worthy.

Regarding Megadeth and Metallica, I think Metallica maybe has a THREE masterpiece sequence (ride-puppets-justice), and Megadeth FOUR (peace sells-so far-rust-countdown). To me, these seven deserve 90, 91 tops, except for Rust In Peace, of course, which deserves a 100.

Still, me thinks no one can beat Maiden with FIVE. :dio:

I'm sorry to say this, but i think you're GAY. Not that there's a problem with that, nothing personal...but not including Killers, 1st Maiden album, Kill'em All and Killing is My Business in your list of masterpieces is enough proof for me that you're gay.

But that's ok, being gay can be cool sometimes...

Hmm...you're the one with a reference to "grabbing balls" in your sig. Something you enjoy, perhaps? You must know, Homophobia is often a sign of denial that you are, in fact, GAY yourself.

On topic, Electric Wizard had three classics in a row, and Napalm Death has had multiple strings of kickass albums in a row. I can't believe no one has mentioned Cryptopsy! Their whole discography shreds.

Walnut: I'd take Priest over Maiden and Guardian too, but they never had a single consistent period where they released great album after great album. All their great albums are spread throughout their career .

Howl Mockery at the Cross, Tentacles of Whorror and 10th sub level of suicide I think......Howl Mockery might be a comp of early demos though.
