I think these, especially A Predator's Portrait, are some of the finer melodeath albums. Their guitarists have a unique way of phrasing and writing their riffs together that I haven't really heard any band sound similar to them. Also Bjorn Strid had a really nice scream and fairly good clean vocals. It also might be becase APP was one of the first 5 or so actual metal albums I liked...

Thoughts?

With that song Sadistic Lullaby, or something. I saw them live some time ago and they played the new shite, but also that song, I dunno what happened but it sucked tremendously, the lead guitar was almost inaudible so the whole idea of the song dropped dead.

I don't really like Predators Portrait so much, but I do love the Chainheart Machine. I am a natural born chaos guy all the way........

I was so into A predators portrait when it came out. It was the first album with not totally clean vocals that I really loved. The solos were great, everything was great. When Natural Born Chaos came out I was as disgusted as I could get with an album. I fucking hated it. Still do. Ther are a few good songs, but that album "matured" so much it sucked. I think Devin Towsnend produced it, but it sucked anyway. The solos were all but gone and there was too much clean singing. I cuaght them live wth IN Flames right around when Figure Number Five came out and it was the worst show I have ever seen. Mallcore fuckbags.

I love everything up to NBC. They were one of my favourite bands until FN5.

A Predator's Portrait rules. :dio:

Natural Born Chaos is pretty sweet too. I just listened to it again last night. Bringer is a kickass song.

I think probably APP was the better of their first three, with SBS coming in second. I love Bastard Chain, it has one of my favourite melodic death riffs.

They all rule up until FN5 ( NBC is also a lot weaker than the first 3 albums)... They went the same way IF and other "modern" bands did = replacing the sweet guitar melodies (including solos) with synth and the guitar just chugging around...oh and "singing" (I like Bjorns normal voice btw)

Man, Bulletbeast has such a SWEEEEEEEAT solo... ah the "old" times.
I find myself repeating that tought a lot in my mind lately ... a lot of bands "going down the drain"....

I don't know why so many people hate on the latest three albums. I think they're excellent. Different, but still awesome.

Never really payed much attention to Soilwork.. sure, they've got some nice songs, but I think there are other bands in pretty much the same style more interesting and appealing.. this band just strike me as somewhat generic and boring. I won't deny that they've recorded some great songs, but overall.. meh. And I have also gotten real tired of these chugging, lifeless guitars that doesn't really add much except acting as background "noise".

I like the first four albums, although not as much as I used to. I guess they will never find their way back to the sound they had earlier so nowdays I'm not that proud of where they are going.

Figured #5 killed my inner child by being the first album I was ever disapointed in :(
