That sucks.

Candlemass was fucking awesome. Hopefully they find a worthy replacement.

Let Rob Lowe stay in Solitude, they've got a new album on the way, don't they?

Don't laugh, but I would like to see Mike Howe sing for Candlemass. I know it's impossible, but I would love to hear that guy sing again, and I also think he could adapt to/be suited for Candlemass.

Oh fuck...

Glad to see this tug of war over, though. I would've hated to witness Candlemass descend to Nightwish soap opera levels.

Yeah, but Solitude Aeturnus are never a full-time band. They can't afford it. They'll do a small tour in Europe and some dates locally in Texas, and that's about it. Why do you think it's taken 8 years for a new album?

Robert Lowe could most definitely do both bands.

That's true for now, perhaps. Until '98, they released albums every two years. I don't really know what happened to them after that, maybe they were affected by Lyle's departure? At least the songwriting was affected on Adagio, imo.

I still wouldn't want Lowe in Candlemass, Lowe in Candlemass would be like Dickinson in Priest. SA and Candlemass are the main important doom bands for me, and Lowe gives the identity of SA through his unique delivery, I wouldn't want these two great identities mixed up. But it would be nice to see him in other projects.

A voice that we all know would suit Candlemass is their old singer, Johan Lanquist. The guy who gave an impressive performance on Epicus Doomicus Metallicus. I know they did a rehersal with him back in 92, I don't know whatever hapened afterwards. I really liked him on Epicus.

I've spoken with John Perez many, many times over the years and the reason why Solitude have been inactive is simple: money. These guys are not rich, they don't have great jobs, and cannot afford touring or recording albums. It's sad, really. John has his Brainticket Records, but that's no enormous source of income. This band needs a solid record deal and some serious promotion. That's what they need. Right now they don't have it.

I think Robert Lowe singing for Candlemass would be amazing. Candlemass are more doomy than Solitude, where Solitude are more traditional metal than Candlemass. It would seriously kick ass!

And have you not heard Last Chapter and Concept Of God? Robert Lowe sang on the first Last Chapter album, The Living Waters, as a guest lead vocalist. Their second album, Paths To Always, featured another vocalist, but he had a killer voice. A very underrated and obscure band. Well worth finding! And Concept Of God is Lowe's side-project. Nothing official has been released yet, though the project has been around for many, many years. Check these links out:

Although this is sad news, it's certainly not the end of this great band. Candlemass has always, and will always be about the music first. Leif Edling is the only member who is not replacable. Don't get me wrong, Messiah is a great vocalist, but let's not forget that Candlemass' finest album has someone other than Messiah behind the mic. I am confident they will find someone who is more than adequate to fill in, and their new album will kick ass.

Oh, and to touch on the Robert Lowe idea, I would prefer they find someone who doesn't already have a well known identity in another band. If they got Lowe, he would juggle between SA and Candlemass. They need someone to sing full time for them, not a glorified session vocalist. OldSchool is right on the money with his comment on the matter as well.

Nothing has been confirmed officially, however I have heard from two VERY reliable sources that the new singer for Candlemass will be Michael Kiske.

But the point I was making is that Lowe could be a full-time member of each band. Solitude have done nothing for almost 9 years now. Do you think they'll be touring much for Alone? No way. Nor will they have another album out any time soon.

But the point I (and OldSchool) are trying to make is that Lowe is the frontman for a well known doom band. I would rather see someone who has yet to make their mark. Otherwise, the validity of the whole deal gets called into question. I don't want the same guy fronting two of the greatest current doom bands.

Well, I don't think that would be an issue. Most of my reasoning is based off of my knowledge that Solitude get no fair shakes. Lowe singing for Candlemass could put the spotlight on Solitude finally, a well-deserved spotlight. Either way, you've got to admit that Lowe on a Candlemass album would be amazing!

By the way, the new Solitude album will have a bonus track on the digipak. So buy that version. =)

It's going to be very hard to find a replacement to Messiah, but not impossible, I guess...

I find all this behaviour from him very strange, since he tried so hard to join the band in the first place, he even singed via phone to convince Leif, there is one guy I can't understand, he probably wants a solo project or something.

Well, it's a shame, such great vocals out of one of the best doom metal bands.
