Misha and Daniel don't write huge disserations about the music of their choice but that doesn't mean they're bad reviewers.

i think it's hard to tell until someone submits or is asked to submit something.

And for 2006 they have a combined total of 22 reviews. We have a policy of one to two reviews a week. Daniel isn't a reviewer anymore, and Misha is our "special" reviewer. Hehe. Either way, we need reviewers that will write one to two reviews a week, not five in seven months, like Daniel did, or one in nine months like Nathaniel did (a review that was a stupid poem, not a review).

we were discussing quality, not quantity.

i'm not saying that everyone here (the forum) makes a great reviewer or that it's the best place to find new additions to the team, i'm saying that there's no way to judge one's ability as a reviewer judging only by the forum posts.

and remember i agree with Al's reason 1) for not going to the forums for potential team members.

I was discussing both quality and quantit (emphasis on the latter):

At this point, however, I don't really see any forum member showing enough interest in music here on the forum that would make me think they'd be a good reviewer for the site.

That's what I initially said, then I mentioned the fact that many people just write one-liners. That's why I don't think many forum members would fit the bill of a "one-to-two-a-week" reviewer. It's a lot of work.

My opinion is that someone on the forum who would likely be a good reviewer for this site would be writing a lot more on the boards, showing a great interest and dedication towards music in general. That's my opinion.

I thoyght of trying to become a reviewer before everyone hated me, but there are a lot of albums/bands that I simply can't write more than like 50 words about, and the only other website I wrote for had reviews like this one (for Opeth's Still Life):

Quote:
How can anyone consiously make music this bad...I mean these songs violate basic rules of music. I do not know what everyone sees in this horrible band, Opeth are good mucisians unable to put out good music. I give them credit for one thing, when they do attempt pure death metal, they do it very well, but it usually ends rather fast and turns into this melodic crap with horrible whinny clean vocals, out of place acoustic guitars and random bass lines. The first red flag is clean vocals in death metal, this sounds horrible.

Opeth doesn't seem to understand Clean vocals do no work with death metal. Granted in their songs they rarely use clean vocals over their death metal guitars, but when they do it sucks. Usually the clean vocals are used over the shitty melodic acoustic guitars and random bass lines that opeth throws in the middle of their songs right after they finally get some good death metal going on. Now the clean vocals don't even sound good outside of death metal, they are whinny, emotionless, and in a monotone. The vocals, although horrible, are not the worst problem with this album.

Opeth doesn't know how to transition from death metal, to whatever they are attempting, emo? Well its not that bad, but I mean, seriously, whats the deal with those melodic acoustic parts of their songs with clean vocals.....what type of metal, or music, are they attempting there. I haven't been able to identify it. I don't think Opeth should try to do anything other than death metal, because when they do that they fall apart. The songs start to suck and lose their intensity.

Opeth does manage one good thing. At times they get some good Death metal going on, but like I said, its fleeting, and last but a short while. I have heard worse Swedish/Gothenburg bands, such as soilwork, new In Flames, but Opeth does suck hardcore. If you like Soilwork and In Flames though, I would recomend this band, if you like real death metal, don't listen to this horrible band.
