Maybe I just get overly offended by laughing smiley faces. I was touched by a man once with a laughing smiley face. There was no more laughter after that.

This is music for people who don't take music seriously, and only skim the surface. Any true music fan would never listen to this band, for they would have piles of much better CDs to listen to before even thinking about Trivium. They are in the right place, the right time, with a label that spends an obvious boatload to promote them. That doesn't mean they are all that great. Good promotion can make shit seem shiny, kind of like Paris Hilton.

Thats such a load of crap..... and i'm going to retain myself from commenting on why, as it is obvious.

Please, Metal Blade has spent a fortune on promoting that band. As someone who works in advertising, I know for a fact that you can polish a turd if you promote it enough. Budweiser is far from even the best American beer, but through aggresive marketing we have conquered the market. I'm just saying, even in the Metalcore genre you can find better bands than Trivium, you just don't hear about them because they don't have a marketing blitz like Trivium does.

Trivium is signed to Roadrunner, so whatever...

They do get a lot of publicity (for the metal community, at least) but for me that doesn't change my opinion that they're a solid band. Honestly, they're the best NEW thrash band I've heard. There's not a lot of thrash being released nowadays (at least not much that I know of) and for me these guys top the list.

I'm not saying they're better than Megadeth, Testament, Overkill, or Metallica, though...because they're not.

Trivium are not Thrash. Listen to Municipal Waste, or Toxic Holocaust, both new bands that play real Thrash. Trivium may have elements on Thrash, but they are definately not a true Thrash band. They are Metalcore, with the new album being a blatant Metallica rip-off.

Play Municipal Waste-Hazardous Mutation and then put on Trivium-The Crusade, and you will see how laughable it is for anyone to call this band Thrash.

It's not a real thrash band, that's true.

Only for this album—which is a traditional metal/thrash album. Their previous albums musically were the same, but the vocals pulled it into the outskirts of the metalcore genre.

And who cares even if this were a Metallica rip off? There aren't many bands that play this sort of middle-ground traditional metal meets thrash. Most play more on the aggressive side or the power metal side.

Listen to Morgana Lefay. They play Trad Metal/Thrash with a heavy Metallica influcence and don't do it poorly like these guys. Seriously, great band and onlike these guys they are not geared for MTV and they don't have a vocalist that sucks.

Morgana Lefay is a real good band. They are a little more in the aggressive power metal category I think. They are in the same league as Tad Morose.

BTW, Leeeeee, you mentioned the song Hiroshima Mon Amour in another thread. I bought the album and I cant stop listening to that fucking song.

wtf@Trivium being thrash, right about the Municipal Waste point btw EI.

Check out the UK thrash scene, all the bands are unsigned and fucking awesome:

Mutant-www.myspace.com/mutantmetal

Absolutely bloody awesome Exodus style thrash, Metal Asylum and Wreck your Neck are fucking awesome tracks.

Pitiful Reign-www.myspace.com/pitifulreign

Again, fucking awesome band more in the vein of a Forbidden/Exodus sorta vibe.

Evile-www.myspace.com/evileuk

Massive Metallica worshippers, but in a good way-there's a lot of Testament in there aswell, and Thrasher is a track you have to listen to, it's fucking awesome.

Amok-www.myspace.com/amokscotland

Another great band who are in the vein of Exodus and have really catchy shit.

Gama Bomb-www.myspace.com/gamabomb

Great band who are Motorheadish sorta thrash...well, not really but that's the vibe I get-they're actually signed if I'm not msitaken, albeit to a tiny label.

And Trivium are good thrash...a fucking lie.

Trivium are not thrash, but to deny that there is a good amount of it in their music is just plain silly.

Ha, Alcatrazz, Bonnet and Malstreem, can't go wrong. If you dig that, check out Assault Attack from Micheal Schenker Band, that has Bonnet on vocals too and some good guitar from MS.

That makes a lot of sense.

If they're not thrash, then what are they?

They're not a thrash band. They have thrash elements, but are not thrash.

Well, then, why did you ask what style they played?

I stand by this opinion:

So basically The Crusade is a modern take on traditional thrash metal and thrash, while their other albums are metalcore.

I said "If they're not thrash, then what are they?" and you basically tell me that they're not thrash. But whatever, that makes sense...The Crusade is thrash, Ascendancy and Ember to Inferno are not.
