Question:What is AOR?

And The eagles and Boston are classic rock bands, not aor... Survivor, Journey, Toto, Foreigner, that are typical and prototipical aor bands (in the acceptation od aor I'm familiar with)

Classic rock isn't a genre.

I always have heard (and in Spain, for sure, is the usual definition) of AOR as adult-oriented rock, not album. But wikipedia, and google, shows that the two acceptions (album & adult) are usual.

And I think Adult means more that album, cause album oriented rock is synonymous of rock (or music in general) with a radio DJ not disposed to put only the singles. AOR (also known as melodic rock) as the style between classic rock and hard rock says a lot more about the music that album-oriented rock, that can be everything from Madonna to Nile.

I admitted that both are correct, but while album-oriented radio made sense, album-oriented rock never did, thus adult-oriented rock became the accepted term.

There are some great aor bands nowadays, like Talisman (with Jeff Scott Sotto on vocals), or Ten which actually have quite a few metal elements so they can get quite heavy. Anyhoo from a practical point of view, A.O.R. is basically catchy melodic hard rock, usually using keyboards. Journey, second era Rainbow, Survivor, are all good examples of this genre.

Another good rule is "If it's been released on Frontiers records, it's AOR"

Man I love Frontiers, they always sign awesome melodic bands!
